Having an odd issue. We purchased new krakens, and new mk4i modules this year. We were assembling them last night and found that the included spacers for the drive and steer motors, with the kraken compatible MK4i left a small gap, allowing the pinon to move back and forth on the shaft. in the past we had falcons and a falcon MK4i and the pinon was not able to move on the shaft, so I’m assuming this is an issue but maybe its not. Any advice is appreciated
Pictures or videos would be very useful for helping you diagnose the issue.
Are you talking about the metal standoff spacers or the plastic spacers for the motor shafts. If its the plastic spacers its likely that you guys maybe just misplaced a spacer or maybe it was missing from the MK4i kit.
Either way I would send pictures to better explain
Apologies I’m not in the lab atm and cant get there till later tn but i can upload pictures then. It is the metal spacers that came withe the MK4I kit I’m talking about. the instructions says
“Drive Motor: Install .125” spacer first, then 20DP 14t Pinion, and .375” spacer last. Secure with 10-32 X 1/2” Button Head Screw"
but doing that as it states, there is a small gap that is left between the last spacer and the screw, which lets the pinon move up and down on the shaft a little. Which I believe you don’t want?

This is the part of the assemble that I’m talking about. Is there supposed to be play in the pinon on the shaft, as in can the pinon move up and down a little on the shaft or should it be tight and not moving.
And again when I go to the lab later I can send an exact video of what we are seeing if needed
Yeah, you don’t need to worry about that unless you think it’s a lot, but if you are unsure, you can send upload a video.
Ideally there should be a minimum amount of end play. I think the WCP gear are slightly a different height than the SDS gear. As long as the gears have full face to face contact you are probably OK.
Sorry for the delay, Here’s a video I took showing the movement of the pinon on the kraken vs what we had on our old falcons if that helps
I have this same problem on MK4n’s and Krakens, I thought we mis-assembled something. May need to find a small washer or shim.
So is the recommendation to put a tiny washer in to make it tight or that it is negligible and to not worry about it?
This amount of movement is negligible. You actually want a little bit of clearance so there is no chance of loading the Kraken’s snap ring when tightening the screw.
