WestCoast Products & CTR Electronics are excited to introduce the Kraken X44, a compact motor that follows the design philosophy of the Kraken X60.

The Kraken X44 is engineered for applications where space is limited. While it is smaller and lighter than the Kraken X60, the X44 retains sufficient power for versatile implementation, making it suitable for shooters, hoods, and intakes/columns. With its smaller diameter, the X44 shares the same motor boss, shaft, and length as the X60. All this allows for this motor to be a very close “drop in” replacement for the X60 in your robot designs.

The TalonFX is the latest motor controller technology from CTR Electronics, and is compatible with the CTR software and hardware ecosystem.

Key Features:

  • Integrated TalonFX controller
  • SplineXS shaft
  • Non-replaceable output shaft
  • Versatile mounting options
  • Robust mechanical design

Electrical:

  • Communication Protocols: PWM, CAN
  • Nominal Voltage: “Accommodates operating voltage up to 24V.”
  • Min/Max Voltage: 6V - 24V
  • PWM Input Pulse (High Time): 1 – 2 ms Nominal
  • PWM Input Rate (Period): 2.9 – 100ms
  • Deadband: Configurable in Phoenix
  • PWM Deadband: 4%

Software

  • Supported Commutation Types: Trapezoidal and FOC
  • DutyCycle and Voltage Control Output Types.
  • Motion Magic motion profiles
  • Brake configuration via Brake/Coast config in API or Phoenix Tuner X
  • Reset to Factory Default via Phoenix Tuner X
  • Out-of-the-box PWM Calibration compatible with FRC
  • CAN bus or PWM control automatically detected over the same wires (pioneering feature of CTR-Electronics controllers)
  • LED indicators blinking proportionately to output speed for easier debugging.
  • Follower Mode - Talon FX can auto follow output of another Talon FX or Talon FXS
  • Integrated PID control running at 1Khz
  • Independent limits for supply current and stator current
  • Phoenix 6 API Compatible

I’m guessing this is supposed to say 397 W? (unless there’s a secret transformer included in Talon FXS)

Ooops, too early.

Hell yeah. Great job @R.C and everyone at WCP for getting this to market!

Will there be a PowerPole Adapter for the X44?

I’m curious as to the heat output of the X44. Will this motor thermal limit faster because of the smaller size?

Interesting that we are getting lower-friction bearings than the X60 at higher RPM. Will these better bearings make it to the X60 too?

What’s the timeline look like for pre-orders getting shipped?

I don’t have this information yet, but in the next 1-2 weeks I should have the exact timeline.

Shaft is the same, what about the bolt pattern?

Typo?

Given the shrunken diameter, the bolt pattern would be smaller, especially given the holes are already close to the edge on both

Can you post an x44 next to the x60?

I really just need a meme template. “Don’t speak to me or my son”

Really looking forward to adding these to our inventory.

Could you elaborate on thermal performance in the context of current?

We love how the X60s don’t get hot even after extended periods of high current use. Can I run the X44 at 40a continuous during practice without being too worried? Or should I think more like 20-30a nominal?

Thanks for the awesome product.
