Lack of field consistency at St Louis

As some of you may know, there were major fields inconsistencies between the practice fields and competition fields. For my team specifically, this meant we had to move our robot 5 inches to the left from where we would put it on the real field.

For many teams, these inconsistencies meant failed autons and even if the code worked on the practice field, it was unlikely to work on the real field.

We were told that the inconsistencies were because the fields were made by different companies, which bothers me as teams should expect field consistency, especially with the large registration fee.

The real question is if all of the dimensions were within tolerance. I can’t say because I wasn’t there, but it’s possible for various tolerances to stack up to a huge difference. No field is perfect. It’s just something that you’ll have to deal with as a part of FRC.
