Late registration and the wait list

Due to uncertanty of team funding for this year and loss of FRIST email contacts, we were unable to/unwilling to register for this year, during first regional registration. However, now second regional registration has opened, and all tournaments that we could feasibly travel to are full. We secured our funding, but the best we can do as of now is get waitlisted at BAE and Boston.

Couple of questions:

-When waitlisted for a regional, what is the likelihood of getting in? Do we get “bumped forward” on it if we pay, or are in our situation, of not being registered for anything?
-is there any chance of us getting in without anyone dropping out, if we are paid?
-Is there any way to see the waitlist?
-If we have the option to attend, will we have to quickly confirm our place, or will we be put in automatically?

Thanks.

  1. Depends how many people are also waiting to get in. There are generally a number of hidden spots available for each regional. If there’s 5 or less teams, you probably have a decent shot.

  2. Yep, not all spots are shown

  3. No.

  4. Not sure. Contact FIRST and speak with the team support people. They can explain the entire process to you.

I would second what Cory says.

Please talk to FIRST… especially the regional that is closest to you.
They may very well be able to help you out when you explain your situation.

There is “some” flexibility in the system and in the regionals…
let them work for you

good luck in the game this year!!!

I am not on the Regional planning committee, but I would imagine that the CT regional in Hartford is more likely than BAE or Boston to have the capacity to handle an extra area team in your situation. So, as Cory said, contact FIRST and they can probably steer you the right way.

Well I was apparently incorrect, we were on the Connecticut waitlist, not the BAE one. Someone dropped out or something, and we are in, and prepared to send our payment out to FIRST next Monday.

Thanks for all the advice.
