As you may be aware, FIRST Choice closes Friday, April 15. If you’ve got that last five or ten credits and don’t want to bother with shipping expenses, allow me to hit you with a concept.
1293 is headed to Championship (a heck of a new concept for us), and we’re picking up a couple items for neighboring teams from the big suppliers. And that got us thinking what all could be picked up that would help us and others around us. If you want to burn off those last few credits with an order marked for us to pick up (which means no shipping cost), we’d love to donate them onward when we get home to South Carolina.
Here’s a list of available items that we think would be maximum bang for the buck:
- Any of the duct tape or electrical tape - Lots of 5-credit options here. I don’t know if you’ve looked lately, but tape is oddly expensive. The 3M duct tape in FIRST Choice, especially so. Giving away good quality duct tape will let people around here make those odd repairs in their homes and save some money. It’s basic, but effective.
- 2019 cargo - Also 5 credits. And they’re a great kickball. We plan to send any we get (plus a stash we just found in our own shop) to our feeder elementary schools.

2017 fuel - Same song second verse, but kickballs are more universal.
- Skystones - You’d be shocked at how fun stacking things with kids can be. (I suggest 2x4 DUPLO bricks on their sides, but when in Rome.)
- Gray and Brown Glyphs - All of the stacking, none of the risk if Little Jimmy makes a poor choice.
- USB-A to B printer cables - When the fallout settles after the global nuclear war, what’s left will be Twinkies, cockroaches, and a need for USB printer cables.
Oh, you’re still packing credits? Yowza. I guess we’ll bring it back to robots, since we understand some rookie teams are springing up next year and there are enough teams on the “stuff we can get from other teams or FIRST Choice genuinely drives our robot design” tier here. Short Ethernet cables, long Ethernet cables, RedLine motors, VHB tape, signal wire packet, breakers, main breakers, heat shrink (1, 2, 3), and CTRE parts are all pretty reasonable picks. Between hosting SCRIW and the local Kickoff, we feel confident we can get them passed on to teams where it’d be a meaningful upgrade.
