Legislation in Montana

Hello Teams!

I hope you all are having a splendid season! :grinning:

So the topic at hand here is how to pass legislation in your state. For us, Team 3216, we have found it hard to receive support for our team and the expansion of FRC in the state. We did however host our first ever open door robot reveal with over 100 participants this year. We invited many people, including our two senators. However, neither of them ended up showing and instead only one sent a representative to speak on behalf of the senator. Our robot reveal consisted of showing facilities, the robot, and practice field. It was a great event.

However, being the only active team in Montana makes it difficult to get attention and spread FIRST (especially FRC) throughout the state.

What are some ways your team has passed legislation?

What legislation is preventing you from spreading FIRST? FIRST is mainly at a local level (district, school, or even smaller). I’m not sure what power the legislators would have to create FRC teams besides making specific STEM grants for districts to apply for.

I believe they’re talking about state funding and the such like in FiM

Yeah this is what I mean.

I know someone running for the House in MT in the fall. I’ll check back next year and see if any more details are posted on your initiative in MT.

Have you tried contacting FIRST Headquarters? They obviously have a lot of experience expanding FIRST to new areas, even if they don’t help they might offer advice or connect you with FIRST leadership and/or prominent mentors from neighboring states

I plan to be more active on this platform in respect to our team updates with the expansion of FIRST and other outreach activities.
