LI team party

Hey guys. Well, I’m trying to figure out what to do for the LI regional team party. Now, Andy Baker had this wonderful idea of having a talent show. I asked the regional coordinator, and he pretty much gave me the green light. So, here’s the idea. The LI regional is going to have a talent show during the team party. Now, since I’m the one planning it, I need some ideas. I was talking to Steve Shade and Andy last night and they came up with ideas like a Woodie Flowers and Dean Kamen look alike contest as well as perhaps a skit of some kind trying to show the typical FIRST day. I’m hoping to have quite a few categories and hopefully all the teams can participate. Money is really short for the regional though (as it is for most regionals) so I was also thinking that perhaps for prizes, each team could bring a few spare shirts or something and that could be used as the prize for who wins. Although, I need some more ideas for this too, 'cause if a large group of people wins…well…we need a different prize, since I doubt I’ll have that many shirts. So, what do you guys think of this idea? And any suggestions on prizes or contests would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

For prizes, mementos like broken gears and bent drive shafts are always neat, if inane. How about trophys made out of dead victors or fried motors? Everyteam has a ton of junk like that they don’t need. Just mount it to a bit of wood, burn in what it was for, and you’ve got your self a FIRST stlye trophy. Makes a good paper wieght at least.

We have done the exact same thing for the IRI awards we give out…last year was our first year doing that award style and i think it turned out great…

i’ll take my digital camera to school tomorrow to get a pic of our (2) awards that we got at IRI.

Ha! Beat you to it, David!

Here is a pic of the awards from the 2001 “Indiana Robotics Invitational”. We took 3/4" thick black acrylic and mounted an aluminum plate with graphics on it and some silver painted parts. My favorite was the silver painted Skyway wheel… it actually spun!

We had a lot of fun making these awards. For a cheaper version, I suggest using wood instead of acrylic.

ps… I wish there was a talent show at a Regional we’re attending. :frowning:

Wow!! These are such great ideas! I just have to recruit some people into helping me make these awards, but I have time. Does anyone have any ideas for contests? I’m just not quite that creative.
