Limelight 3 Fan

When we got our Limelight 3, we initially plugged in (only) over USB straight into the computer. The fan worked fine, we updated BIOS / firmware, and the fan continued to work fine.

We then moved it over to our robot, hooking up power directly into our REV PDH with a 10 amp fuse, and over ethernet directly into the other port of our radio. We know that this is not recommended for various reasons (should use network switch, POE, etc.) Our goal was just to get it running so we could play around with it.

As it stands, the Limelight is functional - we can see live camera view through the app, change settings, etc. But… The fan does NOT come on. At a certain point, we get a fan warning, the limelight is hot to the touch, and we cut power / disable so we don’t harm the Limelight.

Updating BIOS / firmware does not fix this issue, and now when we plug directly into a computer over USB (ie. not connected to the robot at all) that fan does not come on.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Any tips? Something we’re missing or not understanding?

Thanks so much!

Hoping someone replies, we have a brand new Lime light 3 and the fan is not working for us either.

Hey!

I reached out to Limelight and they suggested opening the housing the check that the wiring harness for the fan was seated correctly on the circuit board. We checked, it was seated fine, and nothing seemed to fix the issue.

I reached out again, and they quickly did an RMA and got us a new Limelight 3 in no time (with a return label for the non-working Limelight). Definitely reach out to them! They have great customer service!
