Limelight imaging failure

Team #1164 is trying to configure our shiny new Limelight. Balena Etcher is working and we have the image downloaded and selected. When we try to flash, however, it hangs for a long time with “Starting…” displayed. Eventually it says “1 failed device”, and asks if we want to flash another.

Powering the Limelight on the robot, it’s Ethernet port lights are lit, but the lights on the switch port aren’t lighting. All of this makes us think that the imaging step is failing. We don’t know why…

Anyone seen this? Since this thing is clearly Raspberry Pi based, could we just have a bad SD card? Any problem prying it open and replacing the card?

All thoughts welcome.

We had this issue recently, and it turned out to be a bad micro USB cable. The limelight doesn’t use a microSD card, it’s the onboard emmc on the rpi compute module that you’re flashing. Ensure that the only thing plugged into the limelight is the micro USB cable, not, for example, power from a robot. If this doesn’t work, you may want to contact the limelight people for more thorough troubleshooting.

Thanks Fred. We tried three different micro USB cables and three different USB ports on the PC. Our original cable eventually worked in the third USB port we tried. Go figure.

In any case, we are flashed! Thanks for the tip.

We had the same issue last Saturday. Simply retried and it worked fine.
