Limit switch LED question

Good morning!

After Week 0 we were discussing some improvement ideas for our operators ease of visibility. One thing discussed was imbedding a limit switch or push switch that when a ball is picked up it presses it and lights up.

This can be done sans code through just a general circuit and push button switch, however what are the rules or legalities behind that with FRC?

Is this something we could run through a Spike relay and have it operate outside of code? Or some other module that we could utilize? For instance the REV blinkin? Can we set that up on a small 5v independent circuit to trigger when button is pushed on robot?

Just looking for options prior to our event to help add visual integration for ease again! Thanks!

You could literally wire a switch in series with a switch. Would be a custom circuit. Put it on one of the low current channels and use the appropriate wiring gauge

So we could do that without need of programming the ?

That’s what we were thinking of making was a series circuit using the switch to light up the rest. But didn’t know how that fell into the rules.

This would be a CUSTOM CIRCUIT. It can be powered from the PDP or VRM (or possibly an external battery pack, depending on your LRI’s definition of “computing device”)
