LIST - ALL FRC Documentaries Ever

FRC DOCUMENTARIES

FRC is full of stories, stories worth telling, and (obviously) the best way to tell a story is by yapping about it on camera occasionally interrupted by sick B-Roll.

Here is a list of every FRC documentary I’ve found thus far:

  • More Than Robots (2022)
Now unfortunately removed from Disney+ (because apparently they couldn’t afford a $20 external SSD drive to store it), More Than Robots was a 1.5 hr long documentary that followed 4 FRC teams through their 2020 season.

More Than Robots (2022) - IMDb

  • Afghan Dreamers (2023)
Available on Paramount+, David Greenwald’s documentary, Afghan Dreamers (2023), is an incredible and regrettably largely unnoticed film that follows an all-girl Afghanistan FIRST Global robotics team.

Afghan Dreamers (2022) - IMDb

  • Cyberknights (2025)
Of course I’m going to add our own documentary, how could I possibly forget about it? For the sake of not making this post an advertisement, I won’t get into the details. (Go watch another team’s documentary while you wait for the release!)

We Are the Cyberknights (2025) - IMDb

  • Success is No Accident (2021)
Team 624’s 20th season documentary is another woefully underappreciated FIRST Robotics Documentary.

No IMDB page is available.

  • Small Town Robot (2018)
In an unassuming town in the middle of nowhere, team 5172 Gators builds, codes, and designs their world-bound robot. Their passion & excellence shows that they aren’t just a farming town.

Small Town Robot (Short 2018) - IMDb

  • The Missfits (2020)
An all-girls robotics team balances schoolwork and tearing down stereotypes on the quest for worlds. They also tore down my graphic design career (they are so much better than me).

The Missfits (Short 2020) - IMDb

  • Days in Duluth (2017)
Immersive & entertaining are both areas this documentary excels at. It follows team 2052 on their road to Lake Superior Regional finals.

No IMDB page is available.

  • How We Accidentally Won A Robotics Competition (2022)
I think the name speaks for itself on this one.

No IMDB page is available.

  • Brains, Braids, & Bots (2024)
10th season, one shot at DCMP, and an estimated $5,000 documentary budget (how?!), this must be an incredible story.

The Accelerators: Brains, Braids, & Bots (Short 2024) - IMDb

  • Big Dreams in Umatilla (2021)
The best FRC documentary that I’ve never heard of before. I have to watch this as soon as I can.

Big Dreams in Umatilla | Rocky Mountain PBS (NOT IMDB)

  • I, Wombot (2011)
“A group of teenagers from Sydney Australia join an international robot-building competition for the first time.” - IMDB

I, Wombot (2011) - IMDb

  • RoboLeague (2015)
“RoboLeague…follows five FIRST Robotics Competition teams as they strive for glory at the 2015 FIRST Championship…” - YouTube

RoboLeague (TV Episode 2015) - IMDb

To be considered an FRC documentary, the documentary must:

  1. Include some form of intentional narration
  2. Run at least longer than 7 minutes
  3. Preferably be officially described as a documentary
  4. Be about (or related to (e.g., Afghan Dreamers)) FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition)

Feel free to discuss and suggest FRC documentaries down below!

Later this week I will be sure to uploaded it to YouTube. In 2012 MSG Varsity created a documentary following 329, 353, and 4006.

I didn’t think this would get a mention, thanks for the shout out!

I made this documentary when I was a student on the team, we were gearing up for an exciting 20th season… then covid happened…

However we still had a happy ending to that season as a former student, and close friend of mine at the time, won Dean’s List that year!

Tell your friend I said congratulations on their award!

And congratulations to you for making such a good documentary! It 100% deserves more attention. Covid interrupted probably the most documented FRC season of all time, and many directors were left wondering, “How do I end this?” You managed to solve the problem creatively, keeping attention and excitement while still honoring the memories you guys made. Amazing job!

I’m not sure if this falls under the category of a documentary but would rule breakers apply here?

Unfortunately, I can’t seem to edit the original post anymore. I’ll repost it.

I can’t copy any of the links (this took me like, an hour to make), so I can’t repost it.
