Hello everyone! My name is Kenadi, and I am one of the co-captains of FRC Team 7407. As a senior, I’ve been pretty focused on college admissions throughout this past couple of years, and scholarships have definitely taken a decent chunk of that focus! I’ve found myself looking for FIRST-related scholarships, so I thought I’d share the spreadsheet I’ve been working on with the greater Chief Delphi community!
I can’t promise all of the information on this spreadsheet is 110% accurate—some schools made it very difficult to find tuition information (especially the Canadian schools), and others didn’t publish much information about their FIRST scholarship(s). If there’s anything you find on this sheet that is either missing or incorrect, or you have other college-funded scholarships to add, please let me know so that I can publish a new copy with the updated information.
This sheet is mostly intended for sophomores and juniors entering the college application process, as a lot of these scholarships are past due or the colleges’ applications are closed. I’ve also included colleges’ locations, acceptance rates, and yearly tuition and fees, as well as the scholarships’ yearly amounts and usable number of years. Again, if there’s anything that you think should be added, let me know!
This is an excellent resource! Wish I would have had something like this when I was first looking at schools. One really important missing school (in my humble opinion) that I noticed is Illinois Tech, my own university. Their scholarship program for FIRST is truly extraordinary and is frankly one of the biggest reasons I went here. It’s saved me nearly 125k over my five years here.
Oh wow, thank you so much for pointing this out! I will add that right now. Illinois Tech seems like a really cool school, and this scholarship could be immensely helpful!
Quick important note I learned from my school, which is a scholarship provider. Not sure how other schools do it but at least at Rose, unfortunately, depending on how many students in the current student body are on the FIRST scholarship, there’s not always 2 scholarships up for grab from the FIRST scholarship pool, last I was told. I hope this doesn’t discourage anyone though in applying. I have a great merit aid package (with arguably a mediocre high school record) and plenty of friends who have worked with financial aid to make ends meet.
I do want to emphasize that this is going to vary heavily based on school.
I know Kettering has a “bad” habit of saying there are x and then awarding more than x scholarships. That goes back at least as far back as when I was a student there… which I think current students in frc refer to as “ancient history”
I just wanted to revive this thread since I know college applications are starting soon for the seniors in FRC. If you’re looking for FRC scholarships, you might be in luck!
