I am a mentor for team 1776 in Overland Park Kansas, overseeing the website development. One of my team says the rules preclude making changes to the web site after midnight on 2/14, and another says we can continue to update and put new info on site after that date.
I have reviewed the rules, and can’t really determine who is correct. Can anyone clarify what can and cannot be done?
Keep in mind, this part is from last year. We submitted ours, around 10:50pm on the date it was due. We were still frantically translating the pages (last minute choice to hand translate all the pages into Spanish). Needles to say we didn’t finish on time, and continued to update the site after submitting. We won the website award at Florida Regional last year.
The judges will check what ever is current when they visit, it’s not cached or saved or anything like that.
The websites are due before ship this year, meaning a lot of teams will still be updating their websites with vital information to their teams, you can’t expect them to just stop doing that so they have a chance at the award.
I wouldn’t do any major changes to the website, becuase if they visit the site and it’s down, then you’re out.
As for this year, I don’t know when the judges are going to be judging but I’m a mentor now, on a different team. I’m making sure the students are finishing the website, tonight. So that it is ready to be submitted tomorrow night.
