I’m looking for a 2-sheave step pulley for a B series V-belt. It needs a 7/8" bore with a 3/16" keyway. I’m coming up empty handed at all the traditional suppliers. I’d even settle for a 3-step pulley. Size needs to be rather small. The pitch diameter of the smaller sheave should be around 1.5 inches or so. Any ideas of where to look?
Have you looked on McMaster-Carr yet? I believe this is where we purchased our pulleys for last year’s bot.
Try SDP-SI, too. Also be prepared to bore and broach the pulley yourself, because you may not be able to get exactly the right dimensions.
Grainger has several, but 3- and 4-step, all 5/8 bore, more or less same as McMaster.
I work on old lathes, and one trick for unobtanium multi-sheave pulleys is to get what you need as single pulleys (which are plentiful in whatever size you need) and just mount them all on the same shaft, trimming the hub(s) if necessary. Push comes to shove, you can even pin them together if necessary.
As mentioned in the first post, I checked all the traditional sources already. Also, I was looking for a totally stock solution, with no boring or broaching needed.
I’ll be honest, that never actually crossed my mind. Too many things on the brain I guess. I may do just that. It’s for a milling machine.
