Looking for Nippon Denso Motor connectors

Team 178 is looking for extra Nippon Denso Motor Connectors. Only one of these came in the Kit of Parts. They are not available from Innovation FIRST, however FIRST has said that we are “welcome to solicit them from other teams.” If you have a connector from your Kit of Parts that you are not using, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. As far as I know we didn’t get any connectors in our kit for the Denso or the Keyang motors
and a standard “push on” connector is too wide for the tabs on this connector.

I have been considering soldering wires pig tails to the motor connector tabs and crimping
male “push on” connectors on the end of the wire pig tails.

Also, then filling the motor connector cavity with RTV to act as an insulator and strain relief…

Does anyone know if this is allowed per the 2007 rules?

I agree that the kit didn’t include a connector for the Nippon Denso window lift motors.
We also plan on making connectors to fit on the blade terminals in the integral connector housing on the motor.

The only relevant rule is this:

<R38> So that every ROBOT’S maximum power level is the same, the motors in the Kit Of Parts
can not be modified in any way, except as follows:
• The mounting brackets and/or output shaft/interface of the motors may be modified to
facilitate the physical connection of the motor to the ROBOT and actuated part.
• The gearboxes for the Fisher-Price, and Globe motors are not considered “integral” and
may be separated from the motors. FIRST will not provide replacements for parts that fail
due to modification.
• The electrical input leads on the motors may be trimmed to length as necessary.
The intent is to allow teams to modify mounting tabs and the like, not to gain a weight reduction by
potentially compromising the structural integrity of any motor. The integral mechanical and
electrical system of the motor is not to be modified.

That rule does not define what a “modification” is. I had heard a few years ago that a team had to get new motors because the judges ruled that they were not allowed to use the motors they soldered onto.

So…please ask at the FIRST QnA; there isn’t a definite answer that I can find.

Teams did receive two housings and connectors for the Keyang window motors per the KOP Checklist (see pdf page 16).
They came in the terminal bag.

P.S. No Denso motor connectors though. Are you asking about the correct motor? Black or silver case?

Just to clarify for other potential respondents, I think the original poster isn’t looking for electrical connectors, but rather for the plastic coupler that fits onto the motor’s output gear. In other words, they’re looking for the mechanical output shaft connector, not the electrical terminal connectors.

Our team is using our Nippon Denso Motor and the plastic coupler that comes with it, so we don’t have one to offer.

However, if any other teams have the plastic coupler that they’re not using, we (just as the original requester) would be glad to work out some sort of equitable trade!

Yes, it is allowed. Soldering wires to the “push on” connectors
and then potting it with epoxy for stress relief is the thing to do.
