I like the new extra content thing. The forums are getting better and better all the time. Keep it up Brandon!!

ps you can keep using me as the new feature tester if you want:D:D

I agree with David, I really like the new content too. GJ Brandon, keep up the good work

Publicly congratulating an individual on a job well done often affects their subconcious in an acceptable way (eh, they wanna keep doing what they do). With that said, I congratulate Brandon on the fantastic job he is doing as webmaster of ChiefDelphi’s site (the extra content, too…). Keep it going forward, while telling yourself “I’ll never look back.”

Thanks!
You guys keep using it, ill keep improving it.

Which reminds me … start thinking of a semi-large new feature you’d like … I have a real big senior project to start in September, and I figured why not do something for ChiefDelphi.com, so it will be used…

I was going to click suggest a link, but I decided that I would post it here instead

How about a random team homepage link? You could either have it parse the FIRST list and pick a link or you could just use the webpages of the registered users of the forums for your source.

My guess is that its probably to big to be done quickly, but too small for your senior project :frowning:

Way too small for my senior project, but a good idea… I can do it.
In addition to the programming, I have to write a 75-100 page paper about it.

Brandon,

I thought about two ideas for the forums recently. One is Chat. If ChiefDelphi had a chat it would be the FIRST chat. So many people already come here for the forums anyways…that if there were a place to chat I think that they just naturally would. It would be cool to integate it into the buddylists and stuff. Or what I’d really like is the ability to chat w/whoever is using the forums @ the current moment.

The second idea I had stemed from Robby’s suggestion of uploading PDF files. This might be kind of storage intensive for the servers I dunno how much space you guys guy or whatever but. Some kind of like file library. Perhaps an evolution of the Gallery. The ability to upload whatever kinds of files that might be useful for other teams. PDF, Doc, Images, stuff like that.

And the e-mail notify for the galleries. Perhaps also an easy way to link to pictures in the gallery…not sure what that would be or how it would work but.

Just some of my ideas…

Justin

Yea, I may incorporate some sort of file sharing system where you can not only upload pictures, but maybe also pdf, doc, dwg, etc (to automate the white papers page). Not sure yet, have to discuss it first.

that will definetly be added with the new gallery/file sharing (which have yet to be created, see above)

http://www.rit.edu/~us1stwww/chatindex.html

It’s pretty inactive right now due to the off season, but from Jan. - May, it was filled with people.

the one possible problem of having a chat here is that it might slow the site down, though im hardly an expert in these things so im could be wrong…
plus: if you look at the currently active members thing there is rarely more then 5 or 6 people on so having a chat might not be so helpful. on the other hand, maybe if there was a chat here more people would spend more time on cd

First off, great work Brandon! I did a double take on coming to the page today

Second…on the whole chat thing. This is something that’s been brought up again and again. And I know I’m going to repeat myself, but I think having a centralized IRC type chat here on the CD page would be a great idea if it could be done. Or maybe put a link/ IRC info here to the exsisting #FIRSTrobotics? I’m not sure. All I know is that Tigerbolt’s page is somewhat buried in the RIT server. And although I’d hate to lose the only reason we get any traffic whatsoever, I think it would draw more people in that are just getting used to the whole forum idea if there was a chat here. Instead of the Chief Delphi Forums, then we would really be the Chief Delphi Community

just a thought…

Hey Brandon, probably the last thing on your mind is to do debugging, but if you click on the X button for the extra content, I get a page error.

I’m sure Brandon will fix the error, but for now, just go to http://chiefdelphi.com/forums/ after you toggle the extra content feature…

Thanks to Jay Lundy for sending me a txt file of all FIRST teams’ URLs, and some PHP to generate the random link, etc.

On the front page, in the Extra Content, there is now a Random Team Link that appears. You can also click the ‘another random page’ link, and it will take you to a page to get more random links.

I’m going to ask that if you feel the urge to keep hitting refresh, that you do it on this page , rather than the home page. (less database queries, faster page load time, etc)

Thanks

oh yea, let me know if you find any broken or incorrect links, they were just pulled off usfirst.org, i believe.

Brandon, great job on the forums. I know that I couldn’t do this myself, KUDOS to ya for a job well done!

I agree. I think having the option to chat would really bring the cd regulars closer and attract new posters/chatters to the forum. Many times when I am logged in I see other people who i know also browsing. Rather than sending private messages/IMs or whatever it would be more fun to inclue more people. Just my 2 cents.
