My team is setting up our new Omio X8 CNC router, and have finished assembling it and downloading the Mach3 software. We used a laptop running Windows 10 and a USB 2.0 port to connect to the router.
When we first open Mach3 we get a message saying “ReConfugration Estop”, but after clicking reset the message goes away. We tried to jog the router by clicking the arrow keys on the keyboard and on Mach3, but it does not move at all. Mach3 displays the coordinates as changing on the software, but the router does not move, and the coordinates on Mach3 continue to change even when we disconnect the USB.
It looks like our computer is not connecting to the router, but we were wondering what is causing it to not connect, and if there are any potential solutions.
click on the Diagnostics tab in Mach, then try pressing each of the limit switches on the machine; if you don’t get any lights changing with the switch presses, the controller is probably not communicating with the computer
make sure all of the motors are connected and powered; if they’re powered on, the knobs on them should feel locked
If the motors aren’t connected or aren’t powered, check all of your physical connections and that the machine has power.
Potential solutions for bad comms:
try a different USB port, or try inserting a USB 2.0 hub between the machine and the computer; some USB 3.0-compatible ports don’t speak nicely to the board in the Omio controller
there are a couple pitfalls in the Omio setup instructions, including one that has you overwrite the data in C:\Mach3; make sure this has happened, or consider uninstalling and reinstalling Mach3
I know it’s basic, but just checking that you rebooted your computer after installing Mach3 and the driver. The Mach 3 driver won’t work until you reboot.
We ran into a very similar issue this Fall with our new Omio X8. After going back and forth with their support for about two weeks, we determined that the power supply was bad. After taking the case off the control box, the telltale sign was saw that the power supply and the three control cards didn’t have a green light while the machine was powered on.
We ordered a power supply off of Amazon, installed it in about 30 minutes, and were running again.
If you DM me your email address, I can forward the email chain we had with Omio support for other things to try. It was pretty frustrating working with them since they only reply during the middle of the night so you only get one email per day.
We decided to re-install Mach3, and were able to get the CNC router connected. The one thing we did differently was copying the contents of the “Settings” folder instead of copying the folder itself into C:/Mach3, and by doing this we were able to overwrite the data, so we think this is what fixed it. Thanks everyone for the help!
