Mag encoder

Recently, Our team will buy a mag encoder(CTRE).
I want to know how to mount the magnetic encoder on the shaft.
Does anyone have some example?
Thanks.

Here is the ctre user guide. There are some examples on COTS gearboxes and the requirements for good results starting around page 9.

If you’re referring to mounting the magnet - I believe you’ll need to drill into the end of the shaft (preferably with a lathe) or use a shaft with a magnet already embedded.

It’s also possible to 3D print an adapter that can hold the magnet to the end of the shaft.

If you’re referring to mounting the sensor itself - Depending on what you want to mount it to, there are printable files such as this one for the AM Toughbox Mini.

You generally need to drill the end of the shaft for the magnet. If you don’t have a lathe, this can be a bit tricky (though still possible.) But CTRE brought out a nice solution for this last season for mounting their encoders on 1/2" hex shaft, their Hex Bore Mag Encoder Housing. Since the housing has a magnet in it, there’s no need to drill the shaft for the magnet that comes with the encoder. They’re also easier to mount than the normal encoder housing if you’re not attaching it to something like a drive gearbox. The mounting hole pattern is also identical to the bolt pattern on a VersaPlanetary gearbox, so the housing can be bolted directly to the output side of the gearbox. We used them last season both for our climbing elevator and for our wheel of fortune spinner, both with great success.

Should I put the magnet in which hole?

Should the magnet’s axis always has the same relative position for encoder?

Oh, wait.
I find the answer in the docx.
Thanks

We always drill a 1/4" hole on our lathe deep enough so the magnet barely pops out of the shaft. Then we put the magnet into the hole with a dab of super glue. In terms of mounting the sensor we mark forge our own housing so that we don’t have to use those annoying tiny screws that comes with the ctre housing.
