And, coincidentally, from that article you should note:
47x47 seems to be the usable area
And, it will resize down to 56x56, so make it bigger if you wish. It may come out with an icon that looks more crisp.
I couldn’t decide if I wanted it to be square or rounded like all the other iPhone icons. So i took a shot at both.
And I think the folks in charge should choose between CD or 47 on the icon - so included both versions for both shapes.
Oh, and did I mention i tried to make it match the favicon, but inverse?
My thoughts were,
a) you can customize your wallpaper, but the default is black. So if the center of the icon is black, it’ll merge into the background and won’t really look like an icon. So inverse worked, and I left a bit of an orange border.
b) I added a single pixel black border to the outside for the same reason. If you decide to customize your wallpaper, it’ll be one of the icons that still pops out, it has defined edges.
I’d advise against trying to make the icons rounded or glossy to begin with, since the iPhone will automatically round off the corners and add on the same glossy overlay to make the new icons look just like all the rest.
Anyways, here are my first two shots at CD iPhone icons. (I already made one for Team 228, and added the <link rel… code into the page header file. ;))
Actually, they’re just in my “cross between Apple and Web 2.0-ish” style of graphics. As it happens the GUS and Chief Delphi colors are both orange and black.
Most of my graphic design work follows that similar style.
IMPORTANT COMMENT TO ALL ARTISTS: The iPhone will put it own light glare effect (the semi-transparent white semicircle on top half) on your icon, so DO NOT add one your self.
Few I made, willing to take any suggestions and whatnot. I can make them rounded as well very easily and quickly…I was told that the iPhone does that and adds the lighting on its own so I did not make them with those things included.
