Map of (mostly) All FRC Teams

I seem to be jumping on a recent map bandwagon here, but…

Inspired by Sara Reffler’s Chief Delphi Post about a map of all New York FIRST teams on a map, I put together a map of (almost) all FIRST teams! Using information pulled from the FIRST team database, this map includes almost every FIRST team, except for ones who didn’t enter locations, or entered locations Google Maps doesn’t like.

Sorry to any teams not plotted on this map or plotted in the wrong location! This is just using a combination of Google and FIRST’s databases, and if you update your team location, hopefully it will be correct in the next version!

WARNING: This map takes about 300MB of RAM to display in Firefox and can take on the order of 3 minutes to load. View at your own risk!

And The Blue Alliance post about the same thing, just to be thorough.

Enjoy!

Great Map. The only problem is our robotics room doesn’t have a roof.

really nice. this must’ve taken some time…looks really cool.

Wow. Nice job, Greg!
Did you map only the cities for each team?
…And they say I have too much free time…

I did indeed only map the cities. This creates a slight problem if there is more than one team per city, since the pins are on top of each other. It also creates a problem with international teams, since they often didn’t include their country in their location, and this confuses Google’s geocoding algorithms.

Actually, this took only about two hours of work, and it was the sort of work where you multitask at the same time. I scraped all the location data from FIRST’s site, so it wasn’t too bad to do. The scraping code took a bit longer, but I had already done it. If anyone ever needs a database of all FIRST teams, let me know.

Does FIRST have data pages like they do for FVC and FLL teams? It would be possible to scrape that data too and make a super mega ginourmous map.

LOL the legendary team 1337 exists!

Zoom all the way out and you’ll see one team in Germany. That’s them.

Wow, Great work. It would be even better if it had FLL and FVC, but I’m too lazy to do that so I guess I can’t complain.
