Neat

Thanks for your support, Howard.

Great stuff!

This might be some interesting data to make some graphs out of…

Thanks Scott!

Is there any way to add another column that only shows district/MAR CMP wins? Looks like the Event Wins number there right now includes regionals and CMP wins.

Added. I think the CMP history might be a little off, I grabbed the old data from a CD whitepaper and manually added MAR events in '16 and '17. Will have to update more recent CMP results manually.

I thought I was Looking Forward…

I am not The Martian, are YOU The Martian?

I do note how 747 in its “rookie” year has a better 4 year average than 869.

Howard, how did they ever get the idea that you could write that well?

Registration Updated (see top)

Hatboro 28/33
Mount Olive 33/33 (Full)
Westtown 18/33
Bridgewater 18/33
Springside Chestnut Hill 5/29
Seneca Lenape 11/33
Montgomery 6/33

119 Teams Registered (120 last year)
8 Teams Missing/Waitlisted
6 New Rookies
1 Spinoff - Don Bosco Prep from Ramsey, NJ (4653 & 4652)

“Missing” teams:
265
304
752
3167
3515
4653 - Likely MO waitlist
5624
5938

Have relative comparisons of event strength, but aside from the full and nearly full Hatboro and Mount Olive, you’ll have to wait to see how round two shakes out.

Generally speaking it seems like teams locked in their earlier event first.

Tim Flynn and I noticed a couple peculiarities about 4652:

  • The team number formerly belonged to a PNW team who last competed in 2014
  • The number of the spinoff team is less than the original

Has the first one ever happened before?

423 used to be 487 and 1455 before they combined (i.e. we got a lower number). Not exactly a spinoff team, but the same principle.

IIRC, the rule is that new non-rookie teams get a number from the same rookie year from either a dead team or unassigned number. It doesn’t matter whether the number is higher or lower, only that it’s the same rookie year.

MAR has grown for the first time since 2015! We’re up to 123 teams with 9 new teams, and 6 teams missing from last year. Some of those 6 may be sitting on the MO waitlist.

There are currently 108 total slots open for round 2, so we are likely to see some waitlisting if every team submitted their event preferences. Real event capacity is somewhere around 139 more slots, so those waitlists should clear eventually. In case you’re wondering - “comfortable” district capacity is somewhere around 131 teams (assuming 34 at SCH, 38 at all other events). So I would expect somewhere between 10 and 14 slots to remain for 3rd event registration once the dust settles.

Will update the spreadsheet later in the week when 2nd events post, and might have some quick data about individual district event strength.

The 6 missing teams are:

265 - Wanaque, NJ
304 - Philadelphia, PA
752 - Newark, NJ
3167, Philadelphia, PA
4653 - Ramsey, NJ
5938 - Dover, DE

265 is to be expected, as they are 223’s “beta” team and only exist every 3 years. I’m interested to hear what’s going on with 4653, Ironmen Robotics, since a new team, 4652, Ironmen 2, from their high school (Don Bosco) is currently registered for Mount Olive. Is 4653 waitlisted somewhere and 4652 is their new “beta” team? Has anyone heard from them or the other 4 teams on the list?

752 has a tendency of registering late. I have no specifics on them this year, though.

752 lost their school’s support and will not be competing this year. Sadly, it seems their win in Bridgewater was not enough to gain favor from their administration.

Looks like 5938 is dropping down to FTC.

For 4653 - I’m guessing that they’re waitlisted at MO, and 4652 is a “beta” team. Hard to imagine any other circumstance that would justify a 2013 team number, since I really doubt that they broke with Don Bosco Prep and are forming a community team.

4653 popped up at Montgomery, so I’m not really sure what they’re doing. Might be a registration bug, since there’s an open spot at Mount Olive now.

We’re up to 125 teams registered - 98 teams are registered for 2 events, 27 teams are either waitlisted or forgot to put in a 2nd event preference.

Events look pretty evenly “competitive”, with Montgomery likely to be one of the more competitive events with good depth and a strong top-tier: 225, 25, 341, 1676, 193, 11, 1403, 56.

MAR 2018 Schedule

Looks like we’re 98% done with clearing waitlists. Only 3 teams (3515, 4035, 6943) are missing their 2nd event at this point. Sitting at 125 teams still.

Springside-Chestnut Hill has a decent number of open slots, even considering that’s normally the smallest capacity event. Will be tougher to squeeze into a 3rd play at other events - Mount Olive, Seneca, and Montgomery are pretty much full.

Feel free to PM me or post here if you know about MAR teams going out of district. I won’t really be looking for them with the lasso sites getting killed off.

2016 is signed up for the Central New York Regional.
