Masks Optional on Southwest Airlines as of today

FYI For folks flying to Champs tomorrow and Wednesday, my friend who’s a pilot on SWA said he got this message on ACARS today.
(Double check with your own airport and airline of course).

Yes, I read on the Blue Bird application that mask mandates for United, American, Southwest and Delta had been dropped. I mean im still going to wear a mask but yes the mandate is no longer there.

Edit: Delta has decided to keep their mandate seen here

I wouldn’t trust Newsmax further than I could throw it in general, but this is easily proven wrong and they really ought to have corrected that story.

Yeah, my twitter feed is full of people that were in the air with their unvaccinated children (under 5, remember those exist?) and Delta announced the change. I can’t imagine the helplessness they felt as the most selfish people took them off.

Great job southwest!

Just in time for the massive flu outbreak in the Northeast this week! :sarcasm:

Data from Israel shows that, since February 2020, there were 2,153,987 people who tested positive for COVID and are 0 to 30 years old. Out of them, 847 were severely ill. That’s less than 0.04%. If you look only at 0-5 y/o, that part falls to about 0.02%.
And that’s without taking into account how many of them were in critical condition due to other causes (other diseases, car accidents, etc).
Data is from here but in Hebrew, Google Translate will probably do a decent job.

What about long Covid? Still a lot of unknowns.

So happy! Still have to at comp, but we’re getting somewhere back to normalcy.

Such as how much my insurance rates are going to go up through the next 30 years…
Hoping we can get vaccinated vs unvaccinated rates if it turns out to have a significant impact. It’s just another preexisting condition :man_shrugging:

And? They don’t deserve precautions? What is your point?

900 severely ill children is still a huge deal.

Well, in the US, over 7880 children have been diagnosed with MIS-C and 120,000 children have been admitted to the hospital with COVID during the pandemic. “Only” 1100 have died, but I dare you to tell that to someone who is grieving their child. And they are still finding out the sequalae of mild COVID - which can be diabetes, cognitive impairment and kidney issues. It isn’t a mild disease.

People who refuse to take basic steps (i.e. wear a mask on a plane or high density situations) to protect the vulnerable are ableist and cruel.

I am taking a huge risk in taking my family to the World Championships, but they want to go more than anything. I am trusting my FIRST family to care enough to keep my kiddo safe. He’ll be rocking the best fitted KN95, but every little bit of hand washing, mask wearing, self-testing helps.
