Math project

I am doing a math project on FIRST so I need some information. Is there any way to find out how much first has grown, in terms of either teams, sponsors, money, regionals etc each year since it started? I need to find some set of data to work with that is on a per year basis. Thanks

Try checking the news archives on the www.usfirst.org website, or see if you can’t email someone in FIRST to ask them. You could always just resort to making up the numbers–I mean, ahem heheheh uh…that is to say…I’ll shut up now.

FIRST Robotics Competition - Team Growth:

1992 - 28 teams
1993 - no data available
1994 - no data available
1995 - 59 teams
1996 - 94 teams
1997 - 151 teams
1998 - 199 teams
1999 - 269 teams
2000 - 372 teams
2001 - 515 teams
2002 - 643 teams
2003 - 787 teams
2004 - 935 teams (note: this number increased slightly following the report publication)

FIRST LEGO League Competition - Team Growth:

1998 - 201 teams
1999 - 960 teams
2000 - 1520 teams
2001 - 1702 teams
2002 - 2573 teams
2003 - 3527 teams
2004 - no data yet available

If you go to the link,
http://www.usfirst.org/frc/map/FMPro?-db=teams&-format=team_state_query_results.htm&-sortfield=ID&-op=gte&to%20team%20events::event%20year=2004&-max=all&-find Teams

you find that there are 929 teams still registered for 2004.

That page has many aspects of FIRST history and resources that should help you in your project.

Good Luck!

And if you think that the paper you write is worthy of showing off, please feel free to do so as a new resource to teams.
