Max height during gameplay?

Anyone know the max height that a bot can be during gameplay? I see that 55” tall in the starting configuration but am not sure on the height during play. I don’t see anything other than the 16” around the perimeter.

2" less than the lighting fixtures hung over the field. Because there’s no limit started in the rules.

Reading through the manual I believe there is not a maximum height outside of starting configuration as none of the areas dimensions specifically mentioned a height other than those that specifically said the height was infinite. Based on that I would say there is no max height.

Welcome to the forums!

Just to let you know, in the most GP way possible, this is probably the 34d or 4th (if not more) post about this same topic on this forum. Please use the search button at the top orange bar to search for posts before making a new one.

Thanks, and good luck!

I did do a search under max height and height and none of the thread titles seemed to fit what I was looking for. If you could point me in the right direction that would be great. I may be doing something wrong.

We are asking the same question. And as Kevin pointed out, we could not find a limit other than starting configuration. So, instead of assuming, asking specifically on the Q&A will be our 3rd question.

No problem! The CD search can be a little convoluted. I just did a search for “height” and specific to look for posts from “a week ago” and newer. Here’s what I found:

Good luck!

Please go and read Section 1.5, take the time to ponder and really understand it. To be successful, you don’t need to assume anything, you read the manual, understand the rules as written, and build a robot that meets the rules as written. The rules do not tell you what you can do, they tell you what you can’t do.

You will not get rules that are not restricting something. If there is not a rule preventing/forbidding/constraining something, that something is allowed.

You also will not get much satisfaction on the Q&A asking about non existent rules. Typically, vague questions get answered with some version of “read the manual and get back to us with the specific section or rule you are having problems with”.

Having read the manual extensively and exhaustively since Kickoff I am comfortable stating “there is no height rule, beyond what is contained in R.03” in the manual as released at Kickoff. There is a caution in the blue box of G.05 which reminds you to be congnizant of issues like venue height.

Therefore you can build a robot that deploys to whatever height you want without being in violation of any First imposed rule. However, if you run into the physical world that exists around a First PowerUp field its your problem, so you probably want to consider that when designing your robot.

Your team will get the most benefit and understanding by “studying” the rules rather than just “reading” them. Treat them like the textbook for your math or physics course rather than a magazine article. They should then discuss how the rules work together. Teams can end up at a disadvantage (miss and advantage) when they miss a subtle interaction between rules. You see teams at the competition saying “I didn’t know you could (not) do that”.
