I’ve been trying to get max6 to open with mental ray but it always gets to the little screen where it sayss “loading plug-ins” and freezes up. If I remove the one mental ray plug-in file, max opens but i obviously lose the mental ray capabilities. Anyone know if this is just a system requirements problem (512 mb ram, pentium3 700-something processor). I’ve worked without it so far but now that the season is fast approaching, it might be nice to have such a nice feature…
mm personally i havent found mental ray useful for matters of animation, too cumbersome and no need for photo realism in the animation enviornment. a simple raytrace skylight gets an acceptable effect without the complicated renderer.
however, mental ray is fun to play with, but my usual suggestion of ‘video drivers’ doesnt appear to be valid in this case. ive never had a problem with max that wasnt video drivers, but i dont see how video drivers would effect a rendering plug in freezing the load…
That’s interesting news…anyone else agree? If that’s the case then I’ll just forget about mental ray and stick with what i’ve been using (skylights, light-tracer, etc.).
