You probrably put way too much grease. Try cleaning and running the motor for some time. If there are no more leaks, there are no problems. If it is still leaking check if you have any loose bolts in the gearbox assembly.
you shouldn’t need to add grease to MPs
Like jlr said, max planetaries come pre lubed so you shouldn’t be adding new grease. If you didn’t add extra grease, you probably shouldn’t be seeing any leaking. We’ve never noticed grease leaking from our MPs. Do your MPs get warm during operation and are there any other possible sources of the grease? We’ve mostly run MPs for intermittent duty applications where we’ve never noticed them getting warm, but if yours are getting warm the grease could be getting thinner and leaking. It the MPs are leaking I would expect that do occur mostly on the bottom, is that consistent with what you’re seeing? If you only have grease on the top or a side look for other possible sources.
We did not grease them.
I do not think they get warm during operation (have not checked, but it should not).
This is all coming from the top, not the bottom. I have not checked the bottom. Something to note is that this gear stack did have a hard fall one time but seems to still work.
One on the other side also has a small amount of grease coming out of a crack in the top. I remember the first time it was run that I could see grease bubbling out of a round indent between stages.
Edit: the bottom has been checked and is not leaking.
We noticed the same thing with a couple of our MaxPlanetarys today. We did not add any grease to ours either.
The last order of MP stages we bought were heavily lubricated. Lots of grey grease. I did see some seepage like that in your photo, but I’m not worried.
We recently got some stages (9:1) and they were a little leaky.
Yep, we saw some of this as well from 1 stage. Just seems to be excess grease squeezing out.
Unrelated, but is that blue part an adapter to make the UP fit on the VersaPlanetary mounting holes?
Yes!! We 3D printed it
