Trust me Fran, us FIRSTers from Mass. would LOVE to see it come here. There are plenty of big places around here that would probably work, the Centrum in Worcester, even the Fleet Center in Boston… there are colleges with huge gyms all over the state too…we’ve been suggesting it, but it doesn’t seem to want to happen…

and I agree, if the students want it to happen, it can… i recently joined the 2nd year team here at BU… last year they barely made it competition cause of money $$, but the 7 kids, 1 college student, 1 mom, and a couple engineers made it work… this year, we weren’t going to get practically any support from BU, but after harassing, we’ve got the college of engineering here willing to help us find a room to work in, and i have a pile of flyers we’re going to get out to spread the word of FIRST…most importantly…we’ve got students who want to make it happen… so it’s going to!! congrats to your team on always making it work…

FIRST has posted the Meadows as the site for the UTC NE Regional. It’s on:

www.usfirst.org/2000comp/information/dates.html#dates

Our team is considering going to one of the other eastern regionals rather that Hartford, based on the really disappointing comparison between the Meadows last year and the birthplace of the competition at NH College in Manchester in previous years. Can other teams provide feedback on the venues at Rutgers (J&J Mid Atlantic), Suffolk County Community College (Long Island), and Drexel (Philadelphia)? Are they all stadium seating? The competition was made to play, and to be seen, in a stadium imho.

Dodd,

The seating at the New Jersey regional is very good, every seat in the place is a good seat and noise travels a long way because of the closed nature. from the balcony you can see what is going on in every match and with this ariel view it really helps with the scouting. It might be the best venue I’ve seen a first competition in

I think the Jersey venue at Rutgers is great… If you went to Rumble at the Rock… That’s pretty much what it was set up like… You could see the fields from even the nose bleed seats… It was great… Really has reminded me of the past regionals held in ManchVegas… And the pits weren’t the best in the world… But they weren’t bad either… I’m looking forward to going back to Rutgers…

If you are refering to the competition in Manchester, it was the greatest and most exciting of any of the regionals. That is why Chief Delphi chose to go there each year. The local people (teams) were great.

The setting in the gym and the pits were super. A little close yes, but nice.

you have to be honest though, yah it was close quarters, but who really minded it? that’s what created that amazing atmosphere… i personally loved it and would any day give up the elbow room in CT. for close-knit competition in NH…

esp. from my perspective…winning the regional would have meant that much more if it had been in NH this year, i don’t know why, but the experiences of driving and losing in NH gave me a different kind of spirit than the wins in connecticut (but i’m not trading that gold for anything, do don’t even try

Other than the center isle, the pits in CT certainly didn’t seem any less cramped to me.

It does feel good to win in your home state. I don’t think I could give anything up for the feeling of winning the gold either. As hard as we all worked, I think in my experience, the exciting atmosphere there at New Hampshire had to be the best. New Hampshire’s Regional was the best. As a driver (2 years ago), it felt great to be able to be there. I’m glad our team commits to attending the regional every year.
I do miss FIRST a whole lot though. Myder
