Teams who have used mecanum wheels on your intake system, how good were they at gripping and picking up cargo?
We use mecanum wheels on our intake to direct the cargo towards the center of the intake where grippy wheels take it up over the bumper. This is typically the use case that I see from other teams as well.
Our intake has mecanums on the outside to direct the cargo toward the bumper gap in the middle. We then have poly-belt flappers and compliant wheels doing the work of feeding the cargo into the indexer. The mecanums are doing a great job of directing the cargo inwards, which is all we needed them to do.
Yes, in most cases mecanum wheels are for directional. you don’t want it to be too grippy we used the black ones sold by thrifty bot and works great.
Our intake uses a rod with mecanums lining the sides, which is then driven by a belt. The balls get pulled to the center of the bar, where some squishy rubber wheels push it up and into our bot. Only problem with our setup is the amount of force, the pneumatics forcing it down onto the balls are very loose, mostly just from how they’re connected. Other than that it works very well.
Our intake uses mecanum wheels to direct cargo to the grippy wheels in the center of our intake and so far they have done a great job, they move the cargo super fast
