Media Internship Opportunity at CBS

I just received this information via email. It is not limited to FIRST students, but I felt this was a natural fit. Please read thoroughly, and review the application. Although the information says the positions start in June 2005, I could not readily find a deadline for the application. If you are even considering sending this in, I urge you to do it immediately! Paid internships are not always easy to find, and this internship seems renewable for the length of your college term. This information will also be posted on CollegiateFIRST, so check there for additional information.

Do you know of high school juniors, seniors, and college freshmen interested in PAID internships in media (television, cable, radio) stations throughout the United States?

I recently spoke with Sandra Rice, Vice-President of CBS Eastern Region and she asked me if I could help her find some top notch high school juniors, seniors, and college freshmen that would be interested in her internship program.

Below are the details from Sandra and the application is available online at the following web address: http://www.emmabowenfoundation.com/main.html.

We are currently recruiting minority high school juniors, seniors, and college freshman for PAID internships in media (television, cable, radio) stations throughout the United States. Selected students will earn an hourly salary and be given matching scholarship dollars funds to help pay college expenses, as well as develop a resume.

The internships will start Summer 2005 and last throughout their college years.

Eligible candidates must have a 3.0 GPA, plan or currently attend a 4-year college, and have an interest in media.

Please complete the attached application and return with all corresponding materials ASAP. You are also welcome to visit our website at http://www.emmabowenfoundation.com/.

Thanks for your help and good luck this semester.

Sandra D. Rice
Vice-President, Eastern Region

I have the contact information for Sandra Rice, but refrained from putting it online. Please PM me for her phone number and/or email address.

That sounds great! To bad the closest CBS stations are anywhere from a hour or a hour and a half away.

Wow, I just had a flashback. I worked for CBS in 1972 (ok, so I am 51) as an intern at both the Democratic and Republican conventions. I was a college journalism major. What an amazing experience it was. Towards the end, there was this little story about a break in at the Watergate hotel. Little did we know then what this would turn into.

I was 19, looked like a “hippie” and spent a lot of time working on stories on the demonstrations. One night, I got thrown in a truck by the Miami police who would not pay attention to my press tags, during a demonstration. My boss had to come bail me out of booking. That summer was a defining time in my life when my politics were formed.

I encourage all of you to have as many adventures as you can starting in your teens. You never know where these will lead you.

ps. I decided after that summer to expand my studies out of just journalism. I had some great mentors, some of whom you would recognize because they have been on your tv screens. Thanks for letting me stroll down the memory lane. :o

If you read the application and information, you’d realize these are not just for any CBS stations.

It should be Kansas City, MO , and Hartford, CT
