I see many different Locations shown next to some members posts that only show their city. It would sure help most of us to easily know what state or country that member is from. Perhaps just put the 2 letter state code or a country code following the city.
While some city names are obvious like New York, Toronto or Los Angeles, others like Colonie, Quad Cities, Flint, Centreville, West Covina or Kokomo are not widely known around the USA or world.
I think thats up to the members to disclose their full hide out location, but as far as it already being in the VB code, itâs already there, Your from Marietta GA. If anything add the country to the location if it isnât already there.
Concerning that itâs up to the members to disclose we agree. Me thinks that mtaman02 is missing my point or is just messing with me.
What I believe is that, the CD members choose to let other members know the city they are from but just assume that we know that city. That is all I am trying to say. Of course you know I am from Marietta, GA because it is all over my signature and location. Even if there is some VB code that says where I am from, why should the members have to search for code to see what state someone is from.
Not a big deal but it is nice to know what state / country someone is from IF that member chooses to put a city in their location.
My location is actuallyâŚright behind you! Look out!!! :yikes:
It makes sense to add more specific location information if all you provide is your city. It actually shows more respect to people who arenât from your area, your state, or even your country.
Back in the day, when we attended the first Canadian Regional in 2002, I was told by a friendly Canadian that, to be truly respectful, we should update our LED scrolling sign to read âWarren, OH USAâ instead of just âWarren, OHâ. I thought that made sense, so I made the change.
In an international community such as this one, I think itâs proper to follow a similar format when announcing location in your User Profile. I hadnât appended the âUSAâ to my CD profile location up til now, but Iâve made the change.
Wow Travis, I almost turned around to look! :yikes: I do see that you are from the state with the best amusement park in the world, Cedar Point, which my boys and I have visited about 8 times. Kings Island is not bad also.
How about when asking new members to enter their location, instead of just one field for âlocationâ, have two seperate field for âcityâ and âstateâ where the âstateâ only allow two letters?
While most FIRSTers would realize that Kokomo is, in fact, in central Indiana, it wouldnât surprise me to find out that the majority of the population thinks itâs in the Caribbean (by Aruba, Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahama, Key Largo, or Montego).
NO MORE DISTURBED COVER SONGS!!! AHH!!! Sorry about the caps⌠but if I hear âLand of Confusionâ one more time on the radio, Iâll bust a cap in my stereo.
Hereâs a cool suggestion for [strike]Brandon[/strike] CD47-Bot to add to the Chief Delphi todo list:
When viewing a thread or a userâs profile, make the location a clickable link to Google Maps with that location. To do this would be really simple with PHP, as I did a similar thing for the âConnecticut FRC Teamsâ on the Links page of Team 228âs website. All you need to do is a str_replace and convert the spaces into + signs, and append that onto http://maps.google.com/maps?q=
