Haven’t quite found an answer to this question.
Can the hostbot be touching the pole tower while the minibot is “climbing,” or does the hostbot have to be completely away from the pole?
I’ve been trying to tease this out of the rules, too, but am either too tired or too… something… to garner a definitive answer!
The hostbot has to be completely away from the pole from the moment of deployment.
Please show us the rule, Q&A response or update that says that, because I haven’t been able to find that. Thanks!
There is no rule that states that the HOSTBOT cannot touch the POST while the MINIBOT is climbing. There are two rules that limit where you can contact the TOWER (including the POST.) Your HOSTBOT can’t touch the TOWER above the DEPLOYMENT LINE at any time per G20. Your HOSTBOT can’t touch the MINIBOT if the any part of the MINIBOT has climbed above the DEPLOYMENT LINE.
It looks like my understanding is correct, then: you can both be in contact and stay in contact the entire time…
Indeed, you can contact the POLE (below the DEPLOYMENT LINE) before the END GAME, as long as your MINIBOT doesn’t break the plane of the BASE, wait for the END GAME to start, DEPLOY your MINIBOT across the plane and onto the POLE, and then either remain in contact with the POLE or not, as is your preference…
Right?
No
I think you are all trying to hard to read into the rules it seems to me quite simple
<G17> HOSTBOTS may not DEPLOY a MINIBOT. (This is under the heading of Teleoperated Period. So you cannot deploy until the end game)
Now Deployment means DEPLOYMENT – the act of positioning a MINIBOT on a TOWER. DEPLOYMENT starts when the MINIBOT breaks the vertical projection of the TOWER BASE circumference. DEPLOYMENT ends when the HOSTBOT is no longer in contact with the MINIBOT. (Related form, DEPLOY, verb)
So okay with that said robot is sitting there 10 seconds hit End Game Begins
At this point
<G20> ROBOTS/HOSTBOTS may not contact their own TOWERS above the DEPLOYMENT LINE. Violation: PENALTY for contact. TOWER is disabled if MINIBOT is DEPLOYED above the DEPLOYMENT LINE.
<G21> HOSTBOTS may DEPLOY MINIBOTS only onto their ALLIANCE‟S TOWERS and entirely below the DEPLOYMENT LINE. Violation: RED CARD
<G22> HOSTBOTS may not contact their ALLIANCE‟S MINIBOT once any part of it has climbed above the DEPLOYMENT LINE. Violation: TOWER is disabled
So basically hostbots may touch “their” towers below the deployment line and once the minibot is not in contact with the hostbot you can no longer manipulate it.
Additionally per G19 the Hostbot may not provide an vertical assistance to the minibot up the pole…
That about covers it
Thanks. Your interpretation really helps understand this topic
But we’re allowed to push against/etc parts of the field during TELEOP, so that means we can contact the tower (below the deployment line) before the END GAME, to ready ourselves for DEPLOYMENT.
The HOSTBOT is allowed to break the plane of the tower as long as the MINIBOT doesn’t (before DEPLOYMENT).
Yes there you are fine and I would suspect you will see a lot of this. Lining up that is bumper contact with the towers base.
…and mechanisms extending past that to center on the tower.
The ROBOT/HOSTBOT can break the plane of the BASE – it is only the MINIBOT that is forbidden from doing so.
Per G43 and a Q and A response, it is ok to touch the tower, including the pole prior to the 10 second endgame as long as contact is below the deployment line and " the hostbot doesn’t grab, grasp, grapple or attach to the pole prior to the endgame"… Question is, can you rest/touch a curved, unenclosed mechanism against the base or pole to center your hostbot without being charged with grabbing, grasping, grappling or attachment??? Yeah, I know, ask Q and A but I am interested in what others have to say about this for now.
That doesn’t seem like a grab, grasp, etc, to me!
