Minibot Motor Issues

In http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lRtC8wBUa0 video, the Tetrix motors are connected directly to a ~1cm axle. According to our calculations at the 154 rpm that the motors output, the minibot should move at about 6 cm/sec. The only way we can think of to make the minibot climb that fast is by removing the gear. Is this Legal?

In addition, we recently found out that there are two different types of Tetrix motors, 739083 and 739023. What is the difference between these two types of motors.

2) R47-A allows modification of gear teeth on output shafts. We cannot comment on the general ā€œother external componentsā€ clause.

Other related information…

<R47> Motors and servos used on the ROBOT shall not be modified in any way, except as follows:
A. The mounting brackets and/or output shaft/interface of the motors may be modified to facilitate the physical connection of the motor to the ROBOT and actuated part.

boomergeek musing…

(Gearboxes are typically not considered by FIRST to be ā€œintegralā€ to a motor).

Interesting… What material is that team using on their minibot?
