MIT e_vent

I just saw a picture of the emergency ventilator designed by MIT. Looks like a RoboRIO and power distribution panel were used. The spiritvofvWoody lives on.

Here’s another project that’s also using some common FIRST hardware. It takes a slightly different approach to compressing the ventilator bag (using pneumatic rather than mechanical compression) but has many similarities otherwise. An engineering team from Oxford and King’s College have developed a prototype respirator that uses the same type of respirator bag as it’s core component, encloses it in a similar plexi box, compresses it using the standard compressed air supply that all hospitals have running through their walls, all run by a controller using an Arduino.

Here’s hoping that these kind of innovative solutions can do what the commercial manufacturers have so far failed to do, which is supply the emergency need for a large number of ventilators.
