Mk4i - flip motors upright?

Is anyone flipping drive motor or steering motor to be above the frame rather than below the frame? I Know the intent is to lower the center of gravity and provide clearance above the assembly, but i am looking to improve clearance below deck.

Let me know if you’ve tried this.

We’re running MK4 this year but yes, I’ve seen people flipping them back on MK4i for better clearances or fewer things to catch a note on. If it works for you, go for it!

We flipped one motor up on our MK4i drive yesterday and had a successful test. If we decide to build an under the frame pickup we will be inverting the front motors.

We decided we wanted to do this, and just figured out a design for this a few days ago, can send our CAD if you’d like.

Yes! 2491 has just flipped motors! It was a bit of a pain for programming but nothing crazy. It gave us a fair bit of room and worked with a drivetrain that was already in use with the regular MK4is we now call them MK4i^2 modules. If you’re worried about programming it’s nothing crazy as all you have to do is invert. If you’re worried about build time, it took us about a practice and a half (4 hours) to have 1 mentor and 1 student flip and replace our modules.

Thanks for the positive feedback. Were going to give it a try.
