Many of the match videos are now uploaded to YouTube (thanks @hrench !). MoKan State Championship (2025) - The Blue Alliance
Congrats to 1706, 1987 and 4959! Good luck for those headed next to IRI.
Happy for all that could make this event happen for a second year. And especially to the volunteers, including the fantastic concessions parents from STING-R.
It is fun seeing teams across the two states compete, and I hope we can continue to represent the Kansas side, and also thanks to our top KS team captain and partner Crazy Train. I applaud Missouri for the all MO final, but hopefully us Kansas teams can change that next year!
Also, glad have 4 matches (out of the 16!) to swap in some younger students to gain invaluable drive experience. And even with some issues during quals, we learned a lot and I am happy we put together some very good elims matches with nearly 8 of 9 scored in auto L4, scoring well and all our climbs. Have a good summer and look forward to seeing many at CTTD and in 2026.
More details
We learned a lot from getting to put the robot out on the field again and put on some more mileage.
One lesson was to investigate signs of wear more completely. We saw some rubbing on the swerve wheel hubs early on, but didn’t really look further than see that it was moving like expected. Turns out spacers were missing, which we didn’t realize until after the match when the bearing came out and the wheel dragged the entire match.
I think also this wheel issue might have played a role in the autos being just being minutely off for much of quals, with it working more closely to champs after replacing the wheel.
After another match where the elevator went to the wrong heights, we found that the 3d printed part adapting the shaft to our encoder had sheared off, which was unexpected after a full season and with the minimal load on it. Luckily we had 3d printed a spare part, so replacing was easy, but we learned we will want to check parts like it more often. I think it was a hurried 3d print, so maybe tracking parts that we want to strengthen or print again later on when not rushed might be a future improvement.
