Model United Nations

Well, Lisa and I have been wondering for the past few days if anyone else in Robotics belongs to a Model United Nations club at their school as well and if they are going to the major conference at Georgetown in Washington D.C., the North American Invitational Model United Nations, or any other MUN events.

I have been a member for three years, and have only went on two trips so far(our school never went to more then two a year, our advisor is very busy), but i have loved both of them. I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks of it or if anyone else particpates.

I had never heard of MUN until I met Lisa, and now BAM I’m all for it. I think it may be a bit like FIRST in that not all schools have kids that have even heard of it. I wish you luck at competition.

Yes, I’m involved in MUN…it’s a great program and I really enjoy it. I have been to numerous conferences locally, some of the college conferences I’ve been to include UC Berkeley, UCLA, Brown, and soon to come U Penn (ILCMUN). Our school has also been to Berlin, NAIMUN, and others.

It’s my first year doing MUN this year, so we haven’t gone anywhere yet. It seems like its going to be fun…

Well if you need any help with research or anything like that, let me know, I’d be glad to help. I’ve done so many topics now it’s ridiculous. MUN is pretty much my second-largest club commitment, FIRST is well, my first.

So what topics has everyone else done in the past?

One topic i had was a historical event(at NAIMUN), called the League of Arab Nations 1977-and i was Oman. It was fairly diffucult because little information could be found for my country during that time period.

This year i have Canada in ECOSOC in a technology committee, should be fairly easy, hopefully because they have a near same stance as the US.

I used to be in MUN, but it got in the way of robotics. However, I do know someone who is on our team. I think the IHS club is going to the Cornell debate.

Ah, Corey, you beat me to it AGAIN… Lol

Alex, ditto to DCA’s post, I’m willing to help out anytime.

I will be attending the University of Michigan’s conference, doing women’s rights, prisoners’ rights, and AIDS. At NAIMUN, I’ll be in the Ad-Hoc Iraq committee, discussing self-determination and peacekeeping.

M-U-N is F-U-N

Yes, I am involved with MUN at my school. This is my second year in MUN, but unfortunatly, I’ve never been to WASMUN (the confrence that is closest to our school), or any other confrences.

MUN is a part of World History 2 at our school. We’re gonna have a big convention this March with the entire school and 3 (I think) other schools. I’m Ghana in the WHO.

It > Regular History Class

We did MUN in 9th grade World History. Any Model UN in which Saudi Arabia proposes a complete ban on the transportation of oil until it can be moved 100% safely is terrible. It had so much potential for me too, since I’m interested in politics. Oh well… :frowning:

That would be me! I dunno if we’re going to Cornell. Over feb break we ARE going to Carnegie Mellon, though.

I just got out of ILMUNC hosted by UPenn this weekend. A wonderful event, not to mention the fact the fire alarm went off the second day and called for an evacuation into the freezing weather. If any of you went to the conference, what did you think of it?
