There are several forums in which there are only a few moderators, most of which are not very active any more. One example is the career forum and another is the Math & Science.
Given the amount of SPAM nowadays, I think it makes sense to give all the publicly accessible forums the same number of moderators as every other forum, like the general forum which has 33 moderators. As a side note, of those 33 moderators, not very many are still very active, but there are several that do a good job keeping everything clean.
This is a suggestion to Brandon to distribute the moderators better, although personally, I think Jane and Don would make good moderators if more are needed.
Thank you, Joe. I can think of some much younger CD members who would be good mods, too. (That’s speaking for myself, the old one. )
Jane
P.S. To add, the SPAMmers seem to like to post during evening, late nights, and early mornings. Those are not great times for folks who are contending w/school or social activities to have to monitor the fora, although many of our awesome mods have been doing it for a long long time.
Joe, I think the moderators are distributed similarly to the distribution of posts. While that doesn’t help with spam, it makes sense to have more moderators where there are more posts.
Although I am eager to sign up to be a moderator, I don’t think this is the place for it. Can we not clutter this thread with people volunteering so that it stays more to the point.
I agree with your point to an extent, Alex. Beyond that, I think that the other options that the current moderators have: the moderators private forum and the private message option - can provide opportunities for the discussions that they require. This thread is generating an interest and providing an opportunity for them to know that they have the support of the CD community when there is a need. And I’m just guessing with this but they would probably come up with a process/screening process.
I don’t think there need to be more moderators, just that the current moderators be given mod powers for all the forums with a small handful of moderators.
