Hey everyone,
After seeing the pictures, not much explanation is required (or allowed by the adults for that matter), but I think you should get the idea we were going for with this season’s MOE. We extend from what I’ve dubbed the ‘fetal position’ and extend to grip all three goals. Pushers can move the goal independent from the motion of the chassis. I’m not sure exactly what else I’m allowed to say, so if you have any questions, ask away. By the way, we’re having some trouble naming this year’s bot. So far the ones i like are “Su-MOE” and “MOE hawk.” Comments/Suggestions/Questions are more than welcome.
So this is MOE 2002. Its quite impressive that your robot can grab three goals. Aren’t those extended arms vunerable though? Also are you sure you can get all three goals and keep a tight grip on them? Can’t wait to see you guys in action at Drexel though.
I was just lookin at the Moe-bot 2002, let me be the first to say…holy crap!
Umm…I’d love to see video!
Peace,
Andy =)
Great looking bot !
Make sure that you surf by Metalinmotion.com and check out ours. We have many pictures and videos for your viewing pleasure, and also take a shot at our ‘question of the day’ and win a prize at the nationals.

Robot? I know not this robot? You mean to tell me that we’ve been working on a robot and not a time machine?
As to video, I may have something buried on this hard drive
Se ya in the pits. We’ll be next to eachother (384 385) in VCU. Can’t wait to see it in motion and what it looks like in person.
Nice looking robot, but let me play devil’s advocate for a minute.
While you have your arms deployed, what does your alliance partner do? He can’t go over them and it will be hard to go around.
You grab three goals, than what? You keep your opponents confined to their zone, you score 60 points (3X 20).
Unless your alliance can score balls, it will be a low scoring round.

I totally agree with you, Wayne. Multi-goal scoring robots are going to be low-scoring robots, in and of themselves. They can win by themselves (especially with good drivers), but they can’t score lots of points. They are going to have to rely upon their partner’s ball scoring ability, and quality human players. Which is to say that they are going to have to rely upon their partner’s ball scoring ability.
By the way, that is one quality flame suit you have there.
Well, the thing about our robot is (and any other 3-goal-grabbing robot) is that we aren’t designed to score big points. We’re designed to stop the other team from scoring.
Qualifying matches don’t mean much to us, we already know that we’ll score low in them. But look at finals rounds, which are win / loss only.
If we grab all three goals, we control the match. We get the points for the goals, not to mention the points of the other team NOT getting the goals. You must remember that this goes both ways. Hopefully, other teams will notice this, as we probably will not be on top in the qualifying matches.
Hopefully this helps singe the flame suit a wee bit
Uhh… I don’t know if we can talk about it yet, but… we do have a certain other something on the robot that is supposed to do some other job that involves points… uh, ok I’ll just stop now.
And Strath= “Back-up parts are GOOOD!”*
Three goal robots, in my opinion are going to get hit hard this year. Robots like ours (1 goal only) hit the goal at full speed (12fps) very hard. I can not see how three goal robots with the long arms extended are going to be able to hold on and ‘control’ the field with two other robots, possibly tanks putting everything they have into getting the goals. In addition 3 goal robots will have to be insanely fast to all three to get them, I have seen claims of 14 ft/sec and even higher this year so the goals will not be sitting pretty in the middle of the field. Time will tell but I hope everyone has many spares.
Don’t get me wrong though I like your bot alot it looks very finished all painted like last years, ours is just plain silver.
As for the certain something that scores points, from the picture it looks like a telescoping mechanism to touch your robot in another zone?? Did I win?? Bring spares for that too;)
That was my first impression of this strategy as well. We definitley leave ourselves exposed on the field. I think I’m allowed to say, though, that we have those problems covered. Whether we do or not remains to be seen until VCU though.
I did some digging, and out we come with a 1.3 meg video. No sound, but we’re sure you can imagine sounds of your own. Be sure to get the Globe motor whir just right for optimal effect.
Great looking bot , as always. And as always, the shirts blind the eyes.
The website looks good too.
we’re not planning on having high match scores. think of it this way, though; we’re designed for shut-out matches, and if someone sees that we win every time, then we’ll get picked as an aliance partner by someone who DOES seed.
ps - go spare parts!
I am not going to say that team 365’s robot is not a marvel, because it is very impressive. Thanks for the video.
But… I am really thinking that, unless I am very much mistaken, their robot is not likely to survive 2 matches in a row without serious damage.
I hope they have built a lot of spare parts.
I mean no insult, I am just calling 'em as I see 'em.

Very impressed with the bright green bot…hope to see you in action

I think 122 did it best. at vcu they were the #1 seed and picked us. they did an excellent job at doing whatever we needed. they also picked 384, which was the only other 3-goal grabber at richmond. they knew our capabilities and knew how they could help us. when we had the three goals and the other team was trying to push us back, they were on the other side of our arm holding us still. if anyone from 122 is reading this, we hope we get to play with you guys again, you are an awesome group. I heard you’ll also be at drexel, so we’ll see you again there.
p.s. stupid washers

Thank you for your very kind words. Finals at Richmond was just a sorry state for us three teams. Three broken robots tend not to do so well! Doing a drop down without our shock absorber deployed (turns out a limit switch got bent closed after the previous match) bent us up pretty bad but everything is back to 100% now. Hope you had fun even though we didn’t make it as far as we wanted!
~Tom Fairchild~, who also wants to play against a three goal bot sometime just to see what its like.
sorry to hear that you got banged up too. I was busy trying to find parts for ours to fix what we broke to watch that last match (which by the sounds of things from everyone, it was pretty ugly so I didn’t miss much). but anyway, we’re glad to hear that you’re all right. we have some things to fix, but we know what needs work now and we’ll be awesome by drexel. hope to play with you guys again soon.
