More Emote Reactions

On another note can we have a more emote reactions? It would be cool to have people submit designs and we vote on the top ones.
Some of the ones I can think of now are:
-Water game
-This is fine
-Bumper couch
-Doser
-CD logo

Custom CD emotes wouldn’t be complete without :rtm:

I know that’s what that emoji meant, but I always saw it as a guy holding an axe instead

I humbly request we add based and cringe in place of thumbs up and thumbs down

I propose:
tipping/sad/on fire robot
+4 rp
swerve module
254
mental breakdown
woody giving thumbs up
dumpster fire
frc
amongus (to make people angry)
who are the 4911 cyberknights? (for the memes)

My suggestions:

Innovation: A lightbulb to mark a really good idea or something that breaks the mold. Could be used for a quick way to find really new mechanism ideas or ways to do something better. :bulb:

Strategic Thinking: A clipboard to show you like the way this person thinks about something. Like 100, where you agree but also it’s a show of respect for the tactical mental kung-fu they put out. :clipboard:

Woodie Flowers Flower: A wooden flower smiling to remind people of how awesome he was and when someone honors him with their actions or what they said. See image from Dall-E below Id like someone to do something real and better ideally.

Cartoon Emote of a Wooden Flower: A cheerful, cartoon-style wooden flower with a smiling face, circle-rimmed glasses, and a ponytail. This emote represents a playful and creative take on the Woodie Flowers theme, suitable for forum discussions in the FIRST Robotics Competition community. The design should be simple, iconic, and easily recognizable even when small.

GP: A gears and heart combo with GP in the middle. For when someone demonstrates GP in action or words. Image below from Dall-E. Id like someone to do something real and better ideally.

Gracious Professionalism (GP) Emote: A compact and expressive emoji-style image, featuring a half heart, half gear design with ā€˜GP’ initials on it. The emote embodies the concept of Gracious Professionalism in a simple, iconic style, suitable for small display in forum discussions.

riot until we get dead horse again

Id settle for that half body running horse loop meme turned into an emote. That thing haunts my dreams. That horse would absolutely be dead.

I could do without the memes original name.

AI is so sick! It is just amazing that we can put in a few sentences and it pops out a high quality image that fits you request! A few seconds later!

With great power comes great responsibility, and patience. The more time you put into really thinking out those few sentences the better.

In response of this post, we need an OOF emote

@admins @moderators is there any chance some of the these emotes could be added?

I guess I’ll explain my vehement thumbs down to this idea.

Reactions serve as a heuristic for what the community thinks about a post.

Right now, you can glance at the reactions and see: does the community like this post/think it’s funny/dislike it/etc?

Introducing more reactions ā€œspreads the vote thin.ā€ I already don’t totally have an excellent differentiator between :heart:/:+1:/:100:/:call_me_hand: or between :question:/:thinking:. It’ll make glancing and seeing the mood harder.

Also, the reactions take up a lot of space.

Personally, I preferred when all we had was the ā€œlikeā€ (which, incidentally, is also how I feel about The FaceBook Facebook). The most annoying thing to me is when you see ā€œ100 :-1:ā€ and hover to learn that 98 people really liked the post and two did not. Or that it’s 50/50. It’s just an unhelpful indicator.

Wow, I should not care at all about this, let alone this much. I’ll just go be grumpy about other things now.

To add to this, i dont enjoy the weighting of the individual emotes. A single thumbs down weighs more than a like or other positive-leaning emotes

It looks to me like the desire here is for FRC-specific emotes, which I think would be a fun way to shout out FIRST history/culture. It is true that the current system makes it hard to tell how many people react with what on a post…but maybe that could also be changed?

I’m in favor of custom emotes, but not necessarily more reactions. As far as I know, custom emotes are a base functionality of Discourse, so they don’t need to be reactions if they wouldn’t fit.
