Most Competitive District Event

It’s the end of build season and Week One competitions are soon upon us.

There’s always a thread about competitive regionals but usually not one about competitive district events. With the new Ontario district and the strengthening of other regions, there are sure to be some interesting district events to watch out for this year.

You are free to rank or judge competitiveness by any factor or metric, as long as there’s a short explanation why. I’m interested to see which events are the most competitive overall as well as the strongest events within particular districts.

Based on this:

Ontario’s Waterloo will be strong.

I’m also looking forward to attending the Waterbury event in CT!

99% sure Michigan State Championship is the most competitive district event.

When both of your district events are in the top 5

This is an interesting question. Can anyone provide insight into the toughest districts in CHS, GA, ISR, MAR, and NC?

So far we have:

Chesapeake: ??
Georgia: ??
Indiana: They all seem really strong.
Israel: ??
Michigan: St. Joseph (85, 1918, 2474, 2767, 2959, 3452, 3546, 3604, 3620, 3688, 4967). Southfield (33, 67, 107, 548, 1701, 2137, 3538) and Waterford (27, 33, 67, 548, 1701, 1718, 2137, 3539) are also strong.
Mid-Atlantic: ??
New England: Waterbury? I don’t know.
North Carolina: ??
Ontario: Waterloo (1114, 2056, 3683, 4678) and Ryerson (188, 610, 1114, 1241, 1310, 1325, 4001) are strong. Windsor has some crossovers from other districts (33, 341) as well as some Ontario powerhouses (610, 772, 1241) to make things interesting.
Pacific Northwest: Auburn Mountainview (360, 1318, 1983, 2046, 2557, 3393, 4131, 4450, 4469, 5803) and Wilsonville (955, 1425, 1540, 2471, 2550, 2990, 3574, 3674, 4488) should be amazing to watch.

Even at stacked events like these, teams not mentioned here will definitely make noise. Can’t wait for competition!

I’m scared and excited that we will be at Waterloo and Windsor - I hope we can still get some district points!

IMO, for North Carolina the most difficult district event would be Greensboro. You’ve got 587, 900, 1533, 2059, 2655, and 5854. These teams were the top tier in North Carolina last year, and some of the older teams on the list have been dominating North Carolina for years. From the few pictures I have seen floating around social media, I believe that those teams will make it a very competitive event, which my team is excited for.

Last year Indiana proved to be the most competitive district (Michigan and PNW were close, but their capture/breech rates were lower), and I believe that will be the case again this year. Indiana is unique in that it is such a small district that all of the top teams (1501, 1024, 234, 135, 1741, 461, 1747, 3940, and 3947 just to name a few) show up to most of the competitions. Tippecanoe is going to be crazy competitive, as all of the above mentioned teams are going.

I definitely agree, and I’d add Raleigh to the most competitive NC events list. Raleigh has 435, 900, 2059, 2642, 2682, 4561, and 5518. Districts saw a huge upgrade in robots in NC last year and I’m excited to see what this year has in store!

Sometimes i wonder if it would be good to create a “least competitive” list of events, but then i think about the chances of a team going there just to dominate, and if too many teams go then the former “elite” events become mid-tier…

Tangents are fun sometimes, until you come back and realize you spent 50 minutes focusing on FRC and not physics like you should of been.
