I had a blast with my team at our Week 1 competition, but the down side of this is that I didn’t get to watch any matches outside Auburn Mountainview. As a fan of the “sport” of FRC, I really like seeing what teams can do, and how the preseason hype translates into results in competition. Many amazing teams, some with impressive reveal videos, played this week. With Week 1 almost done (I believe Israel has a District Event coming up), what was the most effective robot?
(This was partially prompted because I saw that FRC Top 25 was accepting submissions. I realized that I just could not rank 15 teams, and wasn’t even sure about #1.)
For now, my best guess is 33, who posted some ridiculously impressive matches at Southfield with their fast, accurate shooter and effective gear pickup. They seeded #1 and won their event.
5687 up here in New England, won the Granite State district. Blisteringly fast bot that when their drivers are in the groove, they are hard to beat. 4 Rotors in almost all of their elim matches.
I second this. I was chatting with them at Granite State and they’ve got shifting gearboxes as well so that if you’re lucky enough to somehow get in their way as a defender, they can still push right back, despite being so small. Plus a floor intake that they didn’t really need to use, but definitely could if the time comes.
Anyone have an average teleop gear contribution total for 5687? How many gears were they hanging from the feeder station, with and without defense played on them?
I remember they were scoring about 2-3 gears per game for most of day one, and than all of the sudden in the last of their matches, they scored 7 gears by themselves in one game. It was crazy and everyone in the stands was talking asking “hey did you see that little robot that scored 7 gears?”. Thankfully they kept up that level of gear scoring throughout the rest of the quals and elims with us.
During our discussions with 5687 they had a peak match of 8 placed gears. Our team had a peak of 7 gears.
Both of us were averaging anywhere from 5-6 gears placed in teleop but without videos we can’t confirm exactly how many gears 5687 or us were scoring during our matches.
With 4908 bringing 1-2 gears to the airship while playing defense we usually ended up with extra gears at the end as our drivers would start their last cycle even if 5687 was bringing the final gear across the field. This always guaranteed we would get the 4th rotor spinning.
We hope some videos surface but so far we haven’t heard of any sources.
Team 283 consistently did 7-8 gears each match in teleop alone. As well as hang every match in under 8 seconds. Team 283 brought their alliance to the finals and lost to the Hawaiian kids after their captain flipped over in match 3
This is correct. During our first semi final match where we tied 205 to 205 our robot lost comms for a good portion of the match and when we came backup we died halfway through our climb. Quite literally inches away from triggering the Touchpad.
During Finals match 2 there was a cluster of red and blue machines down by our Human Player station and in the process our HP accidentally placed a gear into the field and our robot was close enough to the station that it fell into our hopper so we had to transition to defense for the rest of the match. Our alliance was able to keep the score close, but a 50 point penalty pushed the blue alliance out on top with a score of 305 to 355. The alliance of 2084, 95, and 3958 were very strong and put up scores capable of winning several events.
