I think he meant that a game that was scored incorrectly was called a tie and there was a rematch, which does make it reminiscent.
Match 1 of the finals for Wisconsin was awesome, I was really cheering for 93 to win! Was extremely disappointed that King Tec’s robot failed in the 3rd round, leaving 93 to do pretty much all the work.
detroit regional-last match i think- team rush shoots over center wall and scores hurdle. only thing better would be if it won it for them.
Detroit had some pretty good finals.
RED:217, 440 ,469 vs.BLUE: 47, 27, 453 score= 98 for RED, 84 for BLUE
RED:440, 469, 217 vs.BLUE: 47, 453, 27 score= 124for RED, 106for BLUE
Whatever your opinion on SVR was, I think it has to be it. It literally came down to inches three times. The second game was decided by a penalty (not exactly desirable, but indicative of a close game), and in terms of the fourth game, even though the score wasn’t -that- close (a whole 8 points!), 8 was literally less than a foot away from knocking off the red trackball and winning the game. Of course, the third game is a thing in itself, but this is not the topic for that discussion…
So far (week 3) the most exciting final for me had been the last match between 111, 1024, & 876 vs 461, 45, 1327 at the Boiler Maker.
Two powerhouse alliances doing full metal combat.
Top that off with the worst webcast feed I’ve ever seen where you couldn’t make out much with the image freezing, the sound going out or the stutter.
I ended up swallowing my tobacco when the end finally came and I couldn’t tell who had won.
Congrats to both alliances for a great final!:ahh:
if controvercy is exciting then SVR
I was there and I definitely agree. GO BLUE ALLIANCE!
yes SVR was exciting, i was one of the scorekeepers… im still in shock. but i think the refs did what they thought was best and we got to respect that. all in all SVR was great, we were running on time and alot of great teams this year! i loved 190s design. very impressive. (same for 846 the funky monkeys.)
I am disappointed that blue lost the match, but the SVR regional had to be the most exciting I saw. I was sitting there like “oh my god, are they really gonna do a redo.” Yeah it was pretty exciting. At least know I dont feel like I wasted my saturday. J/k
I think that FLR final was extremely exciting.
20, 191, 2053 (red) vs 1126, 378, 1551 (blue) for the first match: 80-68.
Then 191’s arm completely broke off. A replacement robot was needed. 174 was brought in but red lost the second match 50-68. Then red won the final match 66-60 with a penalty deciding the match.
You may look at the lower scores than some regional finals and scoff at the lower quality of play but that was largely due to great defense. 1126, 378, 1551 had played 5 matches before the finals. They averaged 81.2 points per match and only once scored below 74 points and only twice below 82 points. They were held to 68, 68, 60 points in the finals.
Offense is great to watch but its even more exciting when you add a defensive element to it, so that it involves more strategy than just lets try to get as many hurdles as possible. Notice when people are praising the SD regional, they call it a great match between 4 hurdlers. FLR wasn’t between 4 robots, it was between 7 robots (including the replacement).
Yeah, it kind of sucked. Our power cord came disconnected so we couldn’t even move. It’s frustrating that something that simple screwed up the entire match, but hey, we still got to the finals! And 93 did do an amazing job and they deserve major kudos for holding their own out there. Team 1652 (Robot Mafia) also really stepped up to the plate in the quarters and semis, helping us out a TON.
i have to agree…the only thing better would have been winning the match. i have watched alot of the finals and next to the SD and conneticut regional i think detroit was one of the highest scoring regional final match up:D .
and it was two powerhouse alliances
i like your prediction
I’m surprised no one has mentioned Florida. The first round of finals ended in 72 to 74!! The red alliance lost team 69 in the first thirty seconds by being tipped by 233 (no hard feelings guys). From this 233 received a 10 pt penalty. The game ended in a 72 to 72 tie, but penalties and bonuses, the blue alliance pulled through by 2pts. That was one of the most intense matches I’ve ever been in.:yikes:
It seems like everyone on this thread is saying that whatever regional he/she went to was the most exciting one… what about people who has seen the videos of a variety of different regionals around the country?
SVR was really controversial, and a lot of other regionals were close (detriot/FLR), but I still stand that San Diego had the most exciting final 3 matches as far as coming down to the last second goes.
In the first-final round there was a 32 point switch in the points in the last 3 seconds:
12 pts - 1717 placing a trackball!
8 pts - 968 hurdling a trackball!
12 pts - 294 knocking out a placed trackball!
Here’s a video our team filmed at the Detroit Regional. It’s the final match:
Enjoy.
The FL Regional was indeed exciting!!! 233 Pink Team, Cybersonics, and Children of the Swamp 179 wowed me. 801 Horsepower was also good. Of course MARS 1523 was also mega awesome!
Had to be ours, team 27 watch this video of the last match right at the end was our famous hurdle!!!
I have attended three regionals this year (STL, DET, KPRC), watched one (SVR), and watched part of one (SD) and I would say Detroit was the most intense. Detroit is always one of the loudest regionals, and this year with 217, 27 and 47 all being in the finals I thought I might go deaf. Couple that with four of the most historic teams in FIRST (469, 217, 27, 47), the amazing hurdling that was going on (RUSH getting 6 in their second match, 217 getting 5 both times), 2 WFA winners coaching against each other, the Number 1 alliance showing a ton of GP taking a timeout so “217” could work on their robot. It was intense with 27 making one of the greatest last second plays I have ever seen and all six teams having some of the best driving I have seen this year. These matches were so hard fought the carpets were basically torn to shreds on both ends (I think we might need new carpet for WMR). This was one of the greatest matches I have ever seen, and all six teams should be commended for putting on an impressive show.
