HEY! nice robot! just wondering how you guys actuated the elavator? was it with a pulley system or chain, or belt? I tried to pause the video, but couldn’t really get a good look.
The mechanism works by using a pulley to climb a stationary linear piece of belt. The belt is “wrapped” 2/3 of the way around the pulley using two sets of idler bearings. In this case the idler bearings were just a stack of 608zz bearings on an 8mm bolt. The belt was 25mm wide at a 5mm pitch. The whole mechanism rolled up and down a piece of 1020 t-extrusion from 80/20 inc. It rolled on the t-extrusion using V bearings in a 3 contact point configuration.
We plan to release the CAD files as soon as the designers finish adding in some of the brackets that we just made on the fly. This being our first time doing a RI3D I wanted to focus mostly on completion.
In fact, the video editing took over a day to complete. We were completely done with the robot Monday night. Next year I plan to get more people on board to focus on media/communication including documentation. At the moment the students are getting ready for school to begin; I am as well from a teaching standpoint.
