My poor little laptop.

Wow…this laptop has taken all it can take. Right now, I have it running linux 2.2.13 (i think), mysqld, apache, xfree86, blackbox, netscape, and it’s currently trying to load the playing field in xpdf…right now, all 20 megs of ram it has is used…it’s digging deep into swap right now :stuck_out_tongue: I think it may be about time to see if I can find a 32mb SO-DIMM for this thing. the 16meg ext. and 4meg int. ram can’t quite handle everything. Besides opening that PDF, it runs amazingly well for it’s age. It takes a little while to run Netscape, but after it’s open, it runs fine. It also has a bit of a problem with the mysql manual…which is a 2mb+ HTML doc :stuck_out_tongue:

Tsk, tsk, Evulish. I know it’s hard, but you need to cut back right now or I’m going to have to report you to the SPBL (Society for the Protection of Beleagered Laptops)!

I wonder if I am guilty of neglect though, since my own little laptop only runs The Internet Explorer, Outlook and a nice hefty word processing program for the work on the three different books I am writing right now (heh, if one sells, I’ll have about one sixth of a median income salary for a year).
Is it criminal to have absolutely no games on a computer?

BTW…does anyone have a good recommendation for an external floppy device/drive that would be compatible with a Dell inspiron 4150? ( you wouldn’t believe how I got it)
I have considered simply ordering a slide in module from Dell, but money’s tight right now and my kid brother claims that an external device using my USB port would be way cheaper.
What do you all think?

You could have my old computer, 33 mhz, 500 mb hd, 16 ram, and it could barely run AOL 3.0. Sad, sad, sad…

I’m thinking about getting myself a laptop. Question is, what should I get that has good quality for a good price?

Thanks for the offer Joseph, but I think the shipping would kill us at this point.

I hope your new computer is much more satisfying to spend time with. I understand your disappointment in your former unit. I once had a 486 that couldn’t even handle the wordprocessing program I needed for serious editing. I would type and it would be at least five words behind me showing up on the screen. I wanted to pull my hair out. When I work, I go fast. I can’t stand to have a machine or anyone else slowing me down. I just hate to waste any time.
I would say that, “Life is short, work hard.” but some other guy already took that one.
:stuck_out_tongue:

Old IBM’s are nice. What do you want it for?

my ibm thinkpad 350 is still around, but too ghetto lol

I am thinking about an IBM thinkpad, too, and I know a guy who sells them for $600, they come with The entire Microsoft Office, which I need for the powerpoint and Word, and alot of other stuff.
