MyRoboticsLab

MyRoboticsLab is a robotics support project that has been submitted for funding via the Digital Media and Learning Competition. MyRoboticsLab is a combination of physical and virtual resources that will be shared with the general public, but especially the FIRST robotics community. It has the potential to provide real support and nurturing for rookie and veteran teams alike. You can read the full submission here: http://dmlcompetition.net/pligg/story.php?title=547

My name is Jackie Moore and I am the team lead for Chicago Knights (FRC 1739), a community based team located in the heart of Chicago. Since our rookie year (2006), we have created, hosted, and presented numerous workshops, camps, scrimmages, and educational events to help grow and sustain local teams because we wanted to experience the FIRST community we heard other teams talk about. We have even shared our build space and materials with many teams in need. Before we started, there were only 2 teams IN Chicago, now there are 18 plus healthy signs of a strong FIRST community developing.

Through our meager (and dwindling) resources (thanks past and present sponsors), and the home supplied by IIT, we have directly impacted almost all of the Chicago teams (plus many other Illinois teams). This grant will allow successful team development activities to continue in an improved manner while reaching more participants. But your help is needed to succeed.

This grant process is a little different from most in that the public is invited to comment on the proposals. Applicants then resubmit their modified submission based on public feedback. Public commenting and voting will also be part of the decision process during the next round. Won’t you take a moment from the hectic build season to read the submission for MyRoboticsLab and share with me directly your feedback (in this forum, via email to [email protected], or via PM)? I would love to have your feedback before I resubmit. If you want more information about the public commenting process, please: http://dmlcomp.blogspot.com/2010/01/join-conversation.html.

Obviously, if you have positive comments you are ready to share with the evaluators, the best place to share them is on the competition site: http://dmlcompetition.net/pligg/story.php?title=547
