Did I miss something or did FIRST still not announce the name of the game?

Dean in New Jersey said that the name of the game this year was Co-opertition. Sounds kinda wierd to me, but hey its a name,
Good Luck all,

Cooperation+Competition = Co-opertition

Yes… its weird… but Dean said that this was the first time that the two concepts had been combined in a sporting event so the weird name fits…

: Cooperation+Competition = Co-opertition
That’s what it says on the crew shirts, so that’s what I’m going to have to go with…

I’ve got one, but I’m going to need it for the WMRC this year. After May 13, I’ll take offers… =)

I’m not sure, but I could have swore I saw a coopertiton shirt at MMW. Or else it’s just my silly brain convincing me I did.

All I have to say is thank heavens the name of this year’s game isn’t far worse than any of the names in the past. I’m glad that the name this year has finally broken the downward spiral started by Toroid Terror, continuing thru Ladder Logic, and (apparently) finishing off with Double Trouble. I’m tickled pink to know that, this year, I’ll be able to buy a competition T-shirt and wear it out in public without fear of getting the crap kicked out of me. I mean, in past years I would’ve been afraid of what people would do to me (those names just screamed ‘kick this dork’s but!!’)… But this year? I’m proud to wear it around!
‘Coopertition’ is a great begining in changing my views on the ‘wussification’ of FIRST. I mean, before I thought things would just keep getting worse, with FIRST drifting further and further out to sea on the engineless S.S. Nerd. Now I have realized the error of my ways! I would like to take this opportunity to recant on all of my previous statements, specifically those dealing with ‘Declawed Games.’ I have yet to see an actual competition this year, but I can tell, just from the name, that I should be ready for some rough n’ tough action (the likes of which would probably leave the average man hiding in his neighbor’s pocket protector).
Well, that’s about it folks. I look forward to seeing you all at the competition in EPCOT (I’ll be the one not spending $15 on a t-shirt).

Marc

Sorry… I hate to bring this up again, but anyone who thinks this year’s competition is ‘wussy’ hasn’t seen a competition yet. You haven’t seen anything till you see all four robots pounding to jam themselves onto the ramp at the end of the round. Or fighting to grab the bar. Or one robot pounding the opposing team’s arm into the goal as they’re trying to score. Or a robot go flying off the bar as it’s rammed by another. I winced and cringed at the potential for damage and actual damage in every round at our regional… When you actually see a competition, then you can talk to me about wussification.

I agree with you completely Kevin…I had the opportunity to be right alongside the field during the Great Lakes Regional as a member of the crew, and there were several instances where I had to pick small parts of robots off the field at the end of a round. This is one of the most ‘interactive’ games as far as contact between robots goes that I’ve seen in my 3 years with this, and I have a feeling that FIRST anticipated this when they allowed the bumpers this year…the veterans may have not liked the idea at first, but with the amount of contact this year, the National Competition may very well be won by the last alliance still standing.

PS - The only shirts that I’ve seen specifically for this year’s competition(correct me if I’m wrong here) are the crew shirts… -NJS

Yeah… I was watching from the stands and after every round, the field guys had to go out and pick up pieces of the various robots. Little things like arms and side panels and stuff… They didn’t give most of it back, though, so I assume they weren’t all that important… :^)
Anyways, yeah, the crew shirts were the only competition related ones I saw. Man those things are cool, I knew I should’ve volunteered and gotten one… ah well…

Speaking of crew shirts, is there any way that I could get one I was very impressed by how they looked. And I heard that the competitions will be put on the back of the shirts and should be ready at some point. But as of now I haven’t seen anything with the competition name or the regionals on the back

As for the competition shirts, I can’t verify or shoot that down…it wasn’t mentioned at all at great lakes…but as for crew shirts, your best bet for one of those is to volunteer at an event…like I said in my earlier post, I need the one that I have for at the WMRC, and after that I dunno…probably will add it to my collection of FIRST shirts unless I get a good offer for a trade…you might want to look for someone who volunteered at multiple events(if there is such a person)

Re-read that. He was making reference to past years’, and how they were becoming increasingly, well, ‘wussy’, in his words. He states right there that this year’s competition is not ‘wussy’, and I think you jumped to conclusions, or are a quick reader.
