OK guys, so there are exactly 10 hrs and 55 minutes until the Kickoff broadcast (maybe less when I finish the post). And since I am angsty with nothing to do, I figured I’d find out what everybody wants to name their kids. Why not? Though I probably won’t end up with 20 kids, here are my Top 10 and explanations.
So, a survey question about naming kids totally got me stuck the other day. In honor of that question, I would like to present the names I plan to give to my kids, and yes I know some seem wierd. So I like unique names…
If it’s a boy,
Dobry (awesome Russian name)
Emmett (Name of a friend)
Tobias (Sounds so cool)
Dagan (Irish maybe? I heard it somewhere)
Tiernan (Irish, I think. Awesome name.)
Kearney (Irish, I think. Awesome name.)
Tybalt (Ever read Romeo and Juliet?)
Sebastian (Just sounds so cool from many sources)
Dmitrii (Russian - my brother’s name)
Fabrizio (Coolest name ever. Also one of the Strokes guys)
If it’s a girl,
Vashti (Ridiculously cool sounding.)
Maitane (Ridiculously cool sounding.)
Neroli (Ridiculously cool sounding.)
Etain (Irish? Very very cool sounding.)
Mindel (Not sure of origin, but sounds cool)
Kalanit (Hebrew - sounds awesome)
Iris (Sounds cool)
Tamar (Hebrew - one of my favorite names)
Afton (Some English river, also a sweet name)
Quincy
Now - everybody has been complaining that I put Quincy as a girl’s name. Everyone says it’s for boys only. One of my best friends, a very Irish female (you know, tiny green-eyed redhead with insane temper), is named Quincy. In honor of her…Quincy is my top female name.
I’m going to throw out a few and let you sort them into male/female for yourself…
Siobhan
Lars (Ulrich, come on!)
Johann
Natascha (my “German class” name)
Sophia
Rosina (Mother’s name)
Ronak
Michael (Father’s name)
Amelie (bestest movie ever)
Del
Elliott
Zoe
August or Augustus, and Austin (good boy names)
Albert
Kendall
Maximillian
Dane and Sven (excellent guy names)
Antony
Francis
William
Diedre
Ata
Nikolas
Reinhold
Gabrielle
I always joke with friends about one day giving my son really funny names, here are some of my favorites:
Wolfgang
Odysseus
Porter Perry (say it fast a few times, what does it sound like?)
Simon Theodore (my last name is Alvins.)
Pepper (I hope he’ll grow up to be a doctor.)
Well in my family it’s tradition that the first born son is named george…but the middle name can be whatever you want…therefore his name will be George Thenaphenous…I was working in a movie theater one day…looked up at the screen during the credits of Harry Potter 3…and I saw it…George Thenaphenous…I knew then and there, it was to be my sons name.
Either that or name it something that everyone likes…Pizza Presents Santa…everyone likes one of those things.
Haha me and My friends do this all the time too, our latin teacher has a baby name book in the class (supposedly to find the latin root of a name) so once in a while we get to go through it and find names for what we’d name our children. So heres a few that I find intresting, as a side note from personal experince, an intresting first name always is remembered
Boys: Gearoid-“gar + roid”-Its irish, another reason why I love it. Means Means “brave with a spear” or “spear carrier.” but It spells future engineer. Kyna-“key + na” Riordan-“reer + don”-Not only sounds cool, but it means Royal Poet, and very highly regarded in any royal household as he acted as scholar, historian and advisor to the king. Since my last name being Ryan, which means King
Girls: Siobhan-“shiv + awn”-Really cool I think Aideen-“ay + deen”-Femine form Aidan, another name I like Eimear-“ee + mer”-Yes, its pronounced with a Long E at the beginning, Yes I’m a bit mean, but is nice and means a lot of very nice stuff.
As you can see I love being 100% Irish, and I Love having to list a pronunciation guide for a name
We were big fans of songwriter, singer, humanitarian Harry Chapin (1942-1981), so we named our children after characters in his song, “Corey’s Coming.” Kori and Jon.

haha
boys: ummm probobly max(just max nothing else)
aidan thats pretty sweet(and thats the guy of of stargate…man im a geek)
Stephen Francisco Alvarado III(im a junior)
Girls: ummm i dont know…i havent really thought about names for girls haha i kind of what a boy haha
One of my best friends and I have joked on numerous accounts that we will give our kids names that cannot be spelled, but are a symbol (like prince) and to say their name, yo’ll make a noise. xD It’s ridiculous.
Names from the Bible always seem to be popular (especially names such as John and Mary), but it’s a good idea to look up who the people are and what they did. The etymological meaning of a name may not be important to you, but each person in the Bible is known for something, and people may wonder about the associations with some names (such as Cain).
In the book of Esther, Vashti was the queen who was deposed because:
a) she was wicked and rebellious, or
b) she was righteous and stood up to her indecent husband
–depending on which interpretation you favor. So you may or may not want to name your daughter after this famous divorcee.
At least two women in the Bible bore the name Tamar. It’s a beautiful name for beautiful women, but their love lives were even more problematic than Vashti’s, to put it mildly. I won’t elaborate, but the sordid details are recounted in Genesis chapter 38 and 2 Samuel chapter 13.
And to a southern Californian, Riordan also means “former mayor of Los Angeles.”
I used to write stories, so I got some practice naming the characters. The fun thing about this is that your characters can’t get mad at you if you give them a bad/stupid/ridiculous name.
I still write stories. That’s where most of my names come from. It’s always fun to imagine what you’d name someone and why. I don’t know how some people can be like, “See my baby, yeah, his name is Tom.” oO!
