NASA Grant...round two?!

So 4901 applied for a NASA Grant, and we weren’t on the list Monday night. We had to scramble, but we made it through and submitted the last of our payment tonight.

Now, fifteen minutes ago, I get an email that leads off with “NASA’ Robotics Alliance Project is pleased to announce that your FRC team has won a grant award for the 2014 FIRST Robotics Competition.”

And then I look at http://robotics.nasa.gov/events/2014_sponsorship.php, and I see that 4901 is now on the list. I have no idea as to what’s going on with these late additions, but we are very grateful to be added!

Has anyone else received one of these late-blooming grants?

Regardless of why, Congratulations!
Hopefully some other teams are as fortunate.

Yeah. I don’t know what to say either.

Seems like they added 5 or so sustaining grants

It may be possible that teams did not accept the grant. I am not entirely sure but I thought that there were 216 teams receiving grants and that number is now down to 215. I may be totally off here.

I wonder why a team wouldn’t “accept” the grant? We’re still working on our emails that are due on the 15th…

Sometimes teams apply to two grants that can only be used towards initial registration (I don’t think you’re supposed to be able to do this). If that team somehow gets both, then they probably have to turn one down. I want to say this sometimes happens with Boeing grant teams, but I’m not positive. I remember something along the lines of not being allowed to get both a Boeing and NASA grant when I was on 3929. Our Boeing grant was pretty much guaranteed due to the mentors we had, so a NASA grant would have to be turned down if we got one. Don’t quote me on that though haha

hmmm must be something like that. I noticed in our TIMS account that our NASA grant was “restricted.”

I am just so happy that we got it.
