NASA Question

Hey any of you NASA buffs,

do you know how much it costs o build a space shuttle…just the part that goes into space, not the rocket boosters? I need it for a report im doing and its due friday so if u know tell me quickly.
thanks

w/ boosters and aux equip
approx 400 mill

dahl

Actually 400 mil is about what it costs to launch a shuttle every time, sometime more. The cost of the Endeavour, which was the orbiter built to replace the Challenger, was about 2.1 billion dollars, and that was over 10 years ago. With inflation the current replacment cost is probably larger.

Thanks

And if you need some extra info…

Sending things up to space in a space shuttle now costs approximately $10,000 per pound. NASA has been working on some new designs to bring this down to about $1,000 per pound.

When in doubt or in need of more info, ask Dave Lavery. You can look him up on the forum and Im sure he can help. Sorry to post this so late. :frowning:

lol u guys…thanx for all the info…i just needed a price to complete a sentence, but u helped me expand the report an extra couple paragraphs…i knew this forum was useful! lol thanx a million

Dave Lavery? he’s on here? I love that guy. He was at the Virginia regional and then at the LA regional, I went to both, he gave great speeches about how cool it is to work for NASA and junk. He wore these really crazy Hawaiian shirts, and he would run around the field and hide behind stuff while he was talking, he was crazy. I would love to write to him, is he really signed up for Chief Delphi? if so what is his e-mail adress? Thanks

Dave (can I call him that?) posts on here every now and again. The last time he posted, I think, he mentioned the landing of the Mars Odyssey mission that we saw launched at Nats. in April.

Check out his website http://ranier.hq.nasa.gov/staff/davecam.html

He was kind enough to give a speech to our team and some potential sponsors last Thursday evening. He is an absolutely fantastic, dynamic, amazing person. I really, really enjoyed his speech, and now I’m the proud owner of an autographed Dave Lavery business card. He even told us how to get rides on the Vomit Comet (along with some other cool info., right Christina?)

Anyway, he’s a cool guy.

There’s his profile. You can e-mail him (or private message him) from that page.
