National Female Engineering Camp- POWER

At the FIRST Championship Dean talked about working towards a FIRST program that is 50% Male & 50% Female.

After some research and networking, I found POWER Camp, a **National **Engineering Camp that allows high school students the opportunity to explore engineering through hands-on, learn-by-doing experiences. I’m getting involved on a local level, but this is a **national **camp, so why not #MakeItLoud?

Name: POWER Camp (Preparing Outstanding Women for Engineering Roles)
What: **National ** Week-Long Summer Camp
Where: Hosted at IUPUI in Indianapolis, IN
When: July 13th - 19th
Cost: $210 for the week (There are scholarships)
Transportation: Students have to find their own transportation to the camp, but they will pick you up and drop you off at the airport.

If you check out the agenda you’ll see you get to visit the Indiana Robotics Invitational (IRI) as part of the camp on Friday, July 18th from 9:30am - 1:00pm.

They have 31/40 slots currently free. Can future FIRST students fill them? Here’s some ideas on how to help:

  • Pass along the information to your schools to see if you can recruit new females to join the team.
  • Encourage some of your current freshmen and sophomores to attend to get some hands-on engineering experiences.
  • Refer a junior or senior who likes engineering, but don’t know what they want to major in.
  • Get in contact with the organizers to implement a program like this in your area next year.

If only it was a month earlier, i’d be skipping my seismic engineering conference and so on my way to Indiana. But this is literally three weeks into my Basic training for the army. :frowning: (I’m a civil engineer for the Corps of Engineers)
